Is it prepared/mixed with a hardener? Dries hard in less then 10 minutes?

Short answer. No.

You are heading in the right direction though.

So it's not used in the construction trade either?

This item is not used for construction. Variations of the raw material this item is made from is often used for construction. Trying to guess this item by narrowing down the raw material will probably help only a little in figuring out what this item is.

It looked like Bondo at 1st, then I re-grouped and thought it resembled Liquid nails. Guess I'm heading in the wrong direction.

Is it a manufactured replacement for something natural?

I used to help Sam Gore procure Bondo. Bondo is not typically used for the same purposes as the material this was made from, but it has uses that that would be basically the same as one of the uses for the raw material this item was made from.

This is not a replacement for a natural item but is an item used in the crafting of some items that do just that.

Is it a cast, a mold, or something of the sort?

How about a "cast" for holding a body part while it mends, like a splint would?

Not that type of cast. It would be more commonly called a mold than a cast, at least here in the US.
