So today a package came, addressed to my dad; it came UPS, and it had a pretty old address. (Probably 6 or 7 years.)

Inside was a 512 Gigabyte Crucial Solid State Drive, worth $424.99.

It came as a total surprise; none of our family has been on Crucial's website in quite some time, and we certainly didn't buy anything like this.
The person it was billed to is in California; a Zac Kiriakos of Village Art Supply; however, the package and shipping address clearly are addressed to Dad, and a very old address that no one would know.

We've checked some of the most likely credit cards, and they all seem fine, no strange charges.

The only place that would have had that address in this situation would be Crucial; dad has purchased from them before.

I guess it almost has to be a shipping error by Crucial, right? Is there any way they accidentally selected the wrong customer in their system?

I wonder what their policy is in these situations... I tried to contact them tonight, but it was past closing time, so I couldn't get in contact with them.

It was sold through Crucial, and shipped straight from Micron Technology in Idaho.

I wonder if the video editors on The Titanic ever went, "Sorry, I can't right now. I'm busy synching the Titanic..."

Yeah, it sounds like Crucial shipped the package to the wrong address. It happens from time to time.
You can always call up Village Art Supply (707.575.4501) and ask for Zac Kiriakos. Most likely he ordered it and is expecting it.

Something like that happened to me at work, I ordered some random office supplies and got a box with what I ordered plus like 30 2gb USB sticks, I ended up giving them all to friends after waiting a few weeks but not hearing anything from the vendor. If the guy's address is there I'd give him a call.

I may; although I believe I will contact Crucial first. I imagine he may want Crucial to send him another one, that he is sure hasn't been tampered with, and me to return this one to Crucial. I wouldn't tamper with it, but he doesn't know that.

I live in Idaho. The state is full of really giving people and they frequently ship things to people they didn't order, think of it as Christmas all year. We put on our Santa suits, and drive our lemonade powered cars that travel down gumdrop cobbled streets to the candy-cane covered shops where we can buy stuff to be mailed out to random people.

YAY! You mean I can keep it? I only have a 120GB SSD in my computer now!:lol::lol:

On a serious note, we've called Crucial; it makes more sense for us to return it to them, an them send it to Zac.

Zac is not going to be to happy with shipping speed. Hopefully they send him another right away. Then again that's not your problem. ;)

like others said, the right thing to do is to send it back to crucial and let them deal with cross-shipping to the correct customer.

i had this happen on an ebay purchse where the seller sent me two packages by accident (the one i bought and something someone else bought), in that case i sent it to the correct buyer and the seller reimbursed me for the shipping, but i was in direct contact with the seller so it was easy to do that.

That's what we're trying to do; we called Crucial, and they're supposed to call us back; I almost doubt that they will, though.

if you made reasonable attempts to correct the situation and they don't fix it, you're free to keep it.

though I'd give them a week before doing anything with the drive.

Had something similar happen a couple years ago. Contacted the vendor and they said, "Keep them, it's cheaper than dealing with all the shipping and re-stocking."

Um, OK.

Um, OK.

I would be more than overjoyed if they told me that, since money is tight, and hard drive space is tighter. However, it's my duty to be honest and try to get it to the owners first.

Crucial should ship him a new hard drive overnight. They should also send you a prepaid return shipping label so you can ship it to them.

You should always try to return it to the shipper. It is their job to keep their customer happy:)

I have gotten shoe laces..TV's.. Transformer modems and the list goes on in error. It is easy for a shipper to made an error with a shipping label.

I ordered some clothes once from a place I have bought from many times before. When the order got arrived, I discovered an expensive leather blazer in the package that I hadn't ordered. I sent them about six emails asking for a pre-paid label so I could ship it back. They never responded. I finally called them and explained that I had an item I hadn't ordered and they told me that they would never make such a mistake. The person I spoke to even went so far as telling me that I would not be getting a refund back on the item?! At that point I felt like I had made more than a reasonable effort to make things right with them so I gave it to a friend.
