I have quite a collection of "old" cameras: a 40d and two 10ds.

What'd be the best thing to do with them?

You can call canon usa, and they can give you a possible 15% rebate on loyalty program for your next purchase through them.

edited: sorry just saw you are in the EU, not sure if they have a similar program.

Do you know if the same would be true in the UK?

No similar scheme here.

If they're not worth repairing, they may be worth Ebaying for spares, but value will be minimal.

Are all 3 faulty/non-functioning? If still working you could use for time lapse photography. I purchased a cheap power cord for my XTi for time lapse.

Or , if functioning, you could donate to a local arts program for kids.

if really dead and broken, some local school might like them for the kids to take apart and learn about the inner workings. My kids school is always asking for things for that reason. Unfortunately they're out of luck with me, as I do that take apart with my kids at home and they use parts to build "robots" :-)

Other than that, if you just want to get rid of them, maybe put them in craigslist as free, somebody might like them for parts.

None of them are in close to working states.

One of the 10ds needs a new shutter. The other has ERR99

The 40d won't power on after I gave it to a local photo store to replace the motors to fix the err99, and they shut down :S

Yes, the 40D's sensor is great for this once the low pass filter is removed from in front of it.

I'm thinking of taking apart a 10d to familiarise myself with the internal workings :P

Who knows, with the two 10ds I might be able to get one working as a time lapse camera. I wonder if Canon would then take the other in CLP? :P

Might give ebay a shot for the 40d though.

Non-working cameras, with fully disclosed info on condition and what works/doesn't work, will bring in more money on something like ebay than trading it for a CLP purchase. Many folks make a living on parting out electronics into their constituent working parts.
