Has anyone ever used this item: Delkin Devices eFilm Digital SLR Mini Pop-Up Shade (Stick On) for Canon EOS 20D Digital Camera?

Found it on B&H site and think it sounds like a good idea to protect the LCD glass. It sticks on and "features " states it does not leave a residue when removed. Shade can be removed and your left with protective glass cover over LCD.

The 20D LCD doesn't need protection. Mine's been bouncing against a big clunky buckle for something over a year and it's still fine. The D60's has been at it even longer. And it's not actually the screen - it's a very sturdy plastic cover over the screen (about $10 as a replacement part from Canon).

The only problem I have with my LCD's on the 10D and 20D is the oil from my skin can smear on it. So, I have to wipe it regularly. I just use the clear covers from my SONY Clie (cut them to size) and use that. It's not the best solution because it doesn't allow you to see the image clearly, but I don't have the clean it either. The covers come off very easily and costs about $20 for a bunch of sheets. I don't even change them that often, maybe every month or so.

Someone (was it Bob Gross?) uses clear plastic package tape. Costs $2 or so a roll and a roll should hold the entire POTN membership for a year. But, as I say, I don't use anything. A sleeve wipes any grease or whatever off just fine.

>>Tell me if it's worth anything<<
That is a highly individualized assessment! My reasons for use are non-issues to others, so 'chaque a son gout!'
I have the Hoodman and love having it on the camera. Yes, you can swap out the plastic cover which is standard on the camera, and it apparently resists scratching reasonably, but greasy noses have to be wiped off the clear cover if you don't use the Hoodman. Just having the extra degree of protection will keep my camera body in Mint condition longer than if it does not have the Hoodman, and the protection to the body is more than a simple clear overlay affords to the LCD cover. It was a bit of disappointment in that it does not shade the LCD well enough to make things easily readable when shooting out in bright ambient sunlight, but not having to shade the LCD by hand quite so much to read it is nice.

I bought the Hoodman LCD cover for my 20D primarily for use in Iraq. Does a nice job of keeping the LCD shaded and protected. Great thing is, it looks like it belongs on the camera. I probably won't need it as much now that I'm no longer in that environment, but it's a handy little device to have in the kit bag. ;)

I got one of these flip up LCD covers from a place in Hong Kong on e-bay for £24. It broke on the second occasion I used the camera with it fitted. One of the side curtains snaped off :(. I continued to use it and last week the other side curtain broke off too, making it totally useless. Not sure if it's made by the same company, mine may have been a cheap copy. I wont be getting a replacement as I found that constantly having to lift the cover to review the LCD was a right PITA, not to mention the amount of times I nearly had an eye out when I forgot to close it again before taking the next shot!!

Regards, Mark.

Is that also true for the 5D and 30D?
