Canon OEM and Maximal have been my batteries of choice for my 7D. This past holiday season I saw a great offer through Amazon on Sterlingtek LP-E6. I decided to try 'em.
The first thing I noticed was it seemed to go longer than my other bats.
The second thing was it constantly displayed 100%. .....until the camera went dead.vmad
Fortunately I carry multiple batteries but nonetheless I was very disappointed. (PO'd)

I called Sterlingtek... they gathered my purchase info via Amazon and within a minute or so informed a new bat would be on it's way.
Here's the good part:
The call to them was at 4 pm, their time, on Tues. At 10am Wed I had a new battery via FedX. They are in NH I'm in CA.

That might have been the BEST customer service I've ever experienced.
When things go woowee I'm not bashful to BASH FULL. Like wise when a company is this good I want you all to know!
OUTSTANDING!!!!!!!!!!:D

Interesting you say that because I currently have a SterlingTek LP-E6 in my 5d2 and just yesterday I commented to myself "this thing is holding a charge forever!" because the battery info screen was still showing 100%.

In other words, I'll need to make sure I have a charged spare near by in case it has the same problem as yours.

And then I'll feel good about contacting them if/when it does.

Thanks!

Customer service sounds good. But the real question for OP is whether the replacement battery accurately reports its charge on the camera. Having a spare is fine and all, but not knowing current charge state can be pretty annoying...

I guess I was first startled and then annoyed. I've never heard of anyone having this particular failure with a Sterlingtek. I'll report my experiences with the replacement battery on this thread. ;)

They knew you had a bad battery and had someone standing down your street with the replacement, waiting for your call. ;)

I've had nothing but good luck with these batteries.

Thanks Rick, I was looking for a logical explanation!:)

When I needed to buy a spare LP-E6 battery for my 7D in late 2011, I was all set to buy Sterlingtek because I had heard such good reports of their customer service. I went to Amazon and I was about to buy when I noticed that the rating was only about 3 stars (I don't remember exactly but it was a red flag, whatever it was). So, I decided to check the reviews for Sterlingtek. What I found was a number of customers, like you, who got a battery that was DOA or some kind of malfunction that needed replacement. In all cases, Sterlingtek sent a replacement right away, but I found the high number of defective batteries disconcerting, so I did some more research.

I found the Wasabi LP-E6 battery was rated at 5 stars and all of the reviews were good, so I bought a Wasabi battery instead of Sterlingtek. I knew that Sterlingtek would stand behind their products 100% but I just wasn't confident that they could deliver a quality product.

It has now been 16 months since I bought the Wasabi LP-E6 battery and it appears to be better than the Canon LP-E6 battery that came with my 7D. The Canon battery is one month older but only has 2 bars showing for the "Recharge Performance" wile the Wasabi battery is still showing 3 full bars. Maybe the Recharge Performance is just BS, but in the camera, the battery performs just as good as the Canon.

I am glad that I decided to research further and found the Wasabi. If I need another camera battery I will not just buy Wasabi because of my good experience, but rather, I will repeat my research and see which supplier is offering the highest rated product when I am ready to buy.

Caveat Emptor!

I have Wasabi vid batteries which are great! Never tried their LP_E6. I find the Maximals to be a better buy than Canon OEM . They report accurately and are at least as long lasting as a Canon. Since I have no shortage of readily available batteries the Sterlingtek was and is worth a try. In the event of a less than perfect Sterlingtek battery, it can be replaced in a matter of hours. That's not going to happen with others including Canon.
I'll report back here as to my personal experience with these.
BTW, one thing is becoming increasingly clear...the Canon OEM is way too much $$ for "average" performance.

Nice to see Sterlingtek stand behind their product & offer excellent customer service, Sterlingtek gives a 1 year warranty but Wasabi gives a 3 year warranty. Just ordered some Wasabi's w/charger so we'll see if the generous warranty gets used.

Did you know that the Wasabis work with the Canon charger? At least my LP-E6 does.

Yes i knew that but always nice to have a spare non-OEM charger for traveling. Batteries are $14.99 each and the charger with 2 2600 mAh 7.2v batteries is $29.99 so the travel charger w/car adapter was free.
