Do you have an MSRP on that lens? Link at B&H?

That'd make a nice walk around lens. ;)

I believe it was set at "Left Arm & Right Leg"...

Not so sure you'd be able to walk around with it much after that. Unless they accept someone else's arm and leg... ><

I just sold my 5D3 yesterday and I tried my best to love that camera. It just didn't make me go "Wow!". I did like the AF and high ISO performance and that was it. I even tried out a loaner 1D X from CPS and that didn't impress me either. :/ If Canon releases a high MP body this year, will they have a reengineered sensor to compete with the D800? My gut feeling tells me "no". :(

here you go again....to the dark side :D. I like my 5d3 much more than my 1ds mark III. I can shoot in the dark with the 5d3 and with the other I'd start cringing after ISO 800. also the files take half as much sharpening.

Despite all the hype, I got the feeling when the 5D3 was first announced that it was never going to be the camera for me. It majors on things I don't want and struggles with those I do. And that's exactly why Canon needs to continue to offer a high end alternative, whether they want to or not. The 1Ds series did exactly that very successfully.

But Nikons are not without issues either. They seem to lack a design, almost as if they just "happened" to end up the shape they are. The cheap and nasty red plastic tick puts me right off. But I do like they way they have buttons to press rather than Canons multi-layer menus to penetrate (or not in my case - I just cannot comprehend them at all!).

The interesting thing about the 5D3 and the D800 is that while they're often pitted against one another, they're clearly designed to excel in different areas and are not exactly direct competitors (other than price point and being FF). The D800 was designed to be a dynamic range monster....idea for landscape and studio shooters. AF and low-light performance don't matter a whole lot when you're shooting static subjects with a tripod. The 5D3 is designed to excel in low light performance, AF, and speed.....ideal for event, portrait, sports, and wildlife shooters. DR doesn't matter a whole lot when you have limited flexibility with shutter speed when shooting people, and you're pushing the ISO to compensate for low light.

There's certainly room for both Nikon and Canon to fill the voids in their product line-up to directly compete in the $3,000 FF camera market.

I've grown accustomed to the Nikon layout and ergonomics and did not find any inconveniences that interrupted my shooting. I can still pick up a Canon and figure out the menu system without reading the manual. I just picked up Nikon D4 this week and it's a superb camera in every way. It will be used as my high ISO performer for the work I do. I had a difficult time choosing between that and a 1D X. The D4 was my choice in the end due to sensor performance. Sensor performance is a top priority for me. Why pay for something that doesn't perform to your expectations?

Finally, I don't know if you've been keeping up with Nikon's latest firmware release for the D600, D800/E, & D4. They fixed those issues and it's what the cameras should've been at release. I'm definitely a happy camper. :)

I'm glad that you're happy with the 5D3. It certainly is a great cam and ISO performer. :)

Right now the specs are:
38 to 41 megapixels
6 to 8fps
ISO max 6400 (but it will be better than the 5dmiii's iso 800)
Dual CF cards
Wireless transmitter built into body.

are those specs of Canon camera 50 years into future?

I cannot think why I'd ever want a wireless transmitter in the camera body, its about as useful as video to me. Also the ISO maximum of 6400 is a good 10x more than I'll ever use. Mystik610 (#22) knows my needs, its a shame Canon don't appear to pay as much attention.

No.

Canon's camera 50 years in the future will be:

200fps holographic video (can turn it right down to 25fps, for a maximum exposure time of 1/40s - long exposure doesn't exist in the video world)
ISO 1 million (minimum ISO 6400)
125 gigavoxel holographic projection (5000x5000x5000 voxels)
No native stills capability - if you want a two-dimensional still image, just take a 25MP (5000x5000) frame from the holographic video.
Banding now comes in three dimensions (due to holographic projection)

Lenses will come in packs of 2, at four times the price, for 3D capability.

1DX and 7D have replaced the 1D series (sports/action oriented camera). For the time being, 5D Mark III has replaced the 1Ds series.

I'm pretty sure the 1D line is still going with the 1DX?
