Hey folks,
I've got a 5Diii that the info in the viewfinder disappears immediately after shutter half press release or shutter full press release. This happens intermittently.
Normal behavior is: after shutter half press the info stays lit up for about 4 seconds.
Shutter full press (exposure taken) it stays lit for 2 seconds.
Mine disappears immediately! In the few miliseconds it takes to move your index finger from the shutter button to the main dial to adjust you shutter speed or aperture, poof, it's gone!
Granted, this only happens about 1or two times in 50-200 shots, but it drives me nuts!

I've downloaded firmware 1.1.3 a few months ago but this started happening about 3 weeks ago.
Doesn't matter which lens I have on. All Canon lenses.

I e-mailed Canon support and was told that this was indeed an unusual phenomanon and they hadn't heard of it before. I really hate to to send it Canon Service for two weeks, just to have them send it back saying they could not duplicate the problem. I seriously doubt they would spend much time trying to duplicate the fault.

So my question is... Has anyone had this problem with theirs and did they get it fixed, or am I experiencing an isolated problem.

Thanks,
Ray

You aren't pressing/touching something else, which causes it to turn off, by mistake?

Have you try reset all setting in camera, and reinstall software again.

Just wondering before you updating to 1.1.3 firmware, Has this unusual phenomenon happened? or you don't recall see this before update? I am just assuming software glitches.

Thanks for the replies.

Nope, not touching any other buttons or dials. At first, that's what I thought I might have been doing also.

This started happening months after the firmware upgrade and never before. This is a recent issue. I just mentioned that I upgraded firmware so someone wouldn't suggest that I upgrade to the latest firmware.
However, the idea of reset all camera settings/reloading the firmware is a good one. Not sure if the camera will let me reload it but I will try. It might see the latest firmware is already there and not let me reload it. We'll see.

Definitely does sound like a software glitch.

Re-loaded firmware 1.1.3 and reset to default settings. No change.

See if it is the firmware, try flashing it with 1.1.2 firmware just to see if that is a bug in that firmware. Canon suppose to be releasing a new firmware this month.

Try a "reboot"....

Here's why and how:

If that and the other things you've tried don't work, I'm afraid you'll have to have Canon look at the camera.
