So I recently upgraded to the mark 2 from a 5Dc...

and now im looking to make sure that like my last canon this one is protected with minimal cost...

1)LCD screen and Shutter viewer covers? Whats a good cheap brand that i can count on. or that you have?

2)wireless remote... i dont care if its knock off I just need to be able to travel and take snaps of me and friends and fam. Im not a pro so... bare necessities is how i seem to learn best.

3)body armor aka plastic/rubber cover... if i go camping i would like to keep NY knicks (go CELTICS) away from my lens and scrapes and dings...

4)batteries... canon or off brand. whats your say and experience

and

5)tripod... I understand the paying of a higher price... the weight and all and durability... weight is more a less irritating effect but being compact and able to travel easy would be great... (again I like to stay in shape so weight is a perk for me lol jk)

Thanks mark 5d2 newbie!

1. I got my body with GGS covers already installed, and I like them (aside from the fact that the main screen cover was installed a little crooked :/ ). there is no visual impairment of the screens at all, and i often forget they are there.

2. I like my yongnuo RF-602's as a trigger. they function as both an off-camera flash trigger, but the receiver can trigger the camera. mine are rock solid reliable as long as the batteries are good.

3. the body is weather sealed, so it will take a fair misting with no ill effects. i'm not sure there is even a rubber cover for it available, but even if there were, I would think it would hold moisture and dirt next to the body and scratch it.

I use a Transcend 32gig 400x CF card for my 5d2. Been pretty solid thus far.

2) For wireless remotes, just get a cheap $5 knockoff. It works as well as the Canon one does. I have a Canon remote on one strap and a cheap one from Amazon on the other. They're basically interchangeable.

3) (and 1)) I have the rubber Camera armor thing for my 7D. It doesn't fit well at the bottom with a grip on and it just makes the thing hard to hold...plus it covers up the nice white labels on the buttons and replaces it with a black on black scheme which is impossible to see without good light. So if you get one of those, get used to the camera first or else you'll be fumbling around in the dark to change settings. The other thing I noticed is that it does get dusty and dirty inside the rubber so you basically end up trapping dirt right against the body where it'll rub around and could scratch things up anyways. The armor I got came with a pretty good LCD protector for the rear LCD. After a couple of years there's still no bubbles on it and it looks just like new. It also has a hard, clear plastic cover that goes on over it as well when the armor is on but it's not as crystal clear and causes some glare problems in bright daylight. It didn't come with anything for the top LCD though.

4) I bought a couple of Wasabi batteries and a charger from Amazon last year for $30. They don't like the Canon chargers that came with my 7D, 6D, or my sister's 60D. So, besides having to charge them in their own charger, they work really well. I only use them in my 7D now since they don't report their charge to the 6D though. Newer batteries supposedly don't have that problem.

For me:
1) 1x authentic Canon battery
2) 3x 32GB Sandisk Extreme CF
3) a roll of gaffer tape, to "prep" the body & lenses before trips.

Gaffer tape is a good idea. I'd use that before I went back to the rubber armor stuff personally. Just make sure you take it off when it's not necessary. It normally doesn't leave a sticky residue, but if it's left on for too long, some of the adhesive will transfer to whatever the tape is stuck to.

7) CF cards... I like to take a grip of photos... and occasionally long videos... since I needed very basic cards for the 5Dc this is all new to me!

1) Canon cameras already have a built-in LCD protector, so no need. No need for a viewfinder cover either since its recessed.

2) Get something from pixel or YongNuo, both are great and cost far less than the Canon version.

3)I don't see the need for this.

4)Off brand. Sterlingtek, Wasabi, or SiDo (not sure if this last one is available anywhere outside Hong Kong) are just as good as OEM Canon. Stay away from Energizer, they can't hold their charge.

5) I have nothing but praise for my Feisol 3441T which meets all your criteria. I've paired it with an RRS BH-40 head, but you can go cheaper with Markins or Induro. My tripod has been through hell and back, and still performs as new. This is a small overview of the worst it has been subjected to:
covered in salt water and sand, used on sharp volcanic rock, scraped along hard granite, completely submerged in a river, hot water from the shower to rinse out the sand and salt. I have never even taken it apart to clean the joints or re-lube it; it just doesn't need it yet.

6) Where is 6?

7)I only use Sandisk cards. Get Extreme Pro if you are taking long videos.

I've never seen the point of extra screen covers when Canon have already provided them.

I use Canon batteries.

ok... as far as the lcd and top view screen covers go its more of a I like to keep my gear pristine as much as possible... plus if i decide to sell it or upgrade im sure the buyer would appreciate it.

I was wondering about this for the lcd and view finder...

http://www.ebay.com …ain_0&hash=item4852ef3656 (external link)

since im not big on the adhesive on the lcd for the top lcd im fine with adhesive...

and doesnt seem many people have good reviews on 2 hand batteries or off brand.

ill probably just end up getting a 3 pack of batteries for 10 a piece just in case my main canon dies out for the time being...

i picked up 2 32gb x400 trancends for about 68 bucks

no need for armor after reading the reviews makes total sense to me...

hahaha and 6) i edited out on accident

6) wrist strap or hand strap... i have a crumpler neck strap and a old adidas world cup fifa neck strap that i s nice and worn and lots of sentimental value... plus you'll never see anybody with one like it...

as for the remote for now i went with the $5 dollar one like mentioned

and thanks Sirrith for the tripod and the other suggestions!!!

so far im getting some great ideas!

hope this helps others as well!
