I feel I should know this since I've had both bodies for over a year now, but with all of the talk between APS-C and full-frame, where do the 1D3 and 1D4 fall? I know that I really can't use an EF-S lens on them, so are they considered a full-frame?

Sorry if this is an obviously stupid question...

We'll, yea, I know that (should have said that in the original post). So being a crop, would I be able to use an EF-S lens? I always thought I couldn't. Don't know what made me think of this now, after having the bodies for so long...

Canon EF-S will not mount. However, some 3rd party crop lenses like Sigma, Tamron, etc. will mount just fine. ultra-wides will vignette severely.

No you can not use EF-S on a 1D3 or 1D4 only a 1.6x crop body.

there's also a chance of the rear element hitting the mirror.

Would a Sigma 30 1.4 work? I've been wanting one since I had a 7D, but always thought it wouldn't work on the 1D's.

Yea, that's what I've always heard. Just wondering why no one mentions APS-H...

Thanks for that link, good info. I might as well just consider the 1D's as full-frame, not sure I like the vignetting on the Sigma 30, but could always get the 28 1.8.

Lol... Yep, you are correct! I just wouldn't use it enough to justify the cost. That's why I was going the cheaper route...

It is one of my favorite lenses you will find lots of uses for it. It is a very versatile lens.
