That looks very much like a redpoll to my european eyes, but I'm not sure if you have them in the States.

FYI, we do have redpolls here, but they don't range as far south as the OP's location. And they have a very distinctive red cap with a black bib so are usually pretty easy to distinguish from house finches.

They're a northern finch. We don't always see them here in south central MN either, depends on food sources further north.
