I have 7D with a burn on the sensor. Anyone know what the estimated turn around time would be when sent to Canon? Any info would be appreciated.

The repair might be more expensive than a replacement under the CLP. If it doesn't, you might get your camera back in a month.... but they'll give you a repair cost and delivery estimate when you take it in.

Several cameras and more glass than I will admit to.

Most people in the States experience about two weeks turn around. You have some good service facilities out in CA as well.

I haven't had a 7D sensor replaced, but the range for replacing a sensor seems to run $250 to around $600, depending upon model. I would guess the 7D to be toward the lower to middle end of that range, since it's a crop sensor model... but this is just a guess. Contact Canon, they can estimate it for you.

I'm wondering how you got a burn on a sensor?

I believe the $250~$30 was the cost to replace the shutter, not the sensor. I believe that is quite a bit more but can't find a price at the moment.

But a quick question, what do you mean, "burn on the sensor" Is it a dark splotchy area best seen when the picture has lots of sky and the aperture is quite small? Or did you somehow physically burn the sensor like your ciggy fell from your lips while cleaning the sensor landing burning side down and it actually melted the low pass filter covering the sensor?

I'm suspecting it's closer to my first guess and if so, the good news is that the sensor does not need replacing but cleaning.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

I burnt a sensor (most inners ) of a 50D. I beamed up a 400/f2.8 at noon...for a spare moment...:( the bill was $585 (but insurance paid for it). Pretty much you get a new camera...minor scratches on the body...if you do...ask them to replace lcd on top of camera or other things that WILL not add to bill.

Did it burn a hole through your shutter?

It did not actually touch the sensor, since the mirror "protected" the sensor, but the heat ran rampant inside the chamber! :)
