Received the new Sigma 30mm 1.4 "A" or "Art" lens direct from Sigma tonight. I took a shots in a corner lit by a incandescent bulb. I did a quick fix of the WB in Lightroom, but left lens corrections off. First at f/1.4:

And another at f/2.0:

Looking forward to trying out this lens more as time permits, as well as how it compares to the mighty Sigma 35mm and the previous version of the 30mm DC.

Tools: 70D, 10-22, Tamron 24-70 VC, 70-300L, 135 f2L

How is it compared to the older one? I'm looking forward to the reviews.

Absolutely love this lens! We just picked it up for this years wedding season and it owns. I would take it over the canon or any sigma predecessor hands down. Apart from the sigma 85 1.4 its our other most used lens. Check out some the images at benandles.com (external link)

Strongly considering this lens... part of me is considering adding a FF body, but I don't think I'm giving up my 7d, so this would still be worth having... any images you want to share to sway my buying decision would be much appreciated!

Also, I'm curious about focus. The one review on amazon says it's louder and slower than Canon USM... noticeably so? Not that I'm likely to use this for sports, but that's been my main gripe with my canon 50 1.8...

That was my review. What I meant to say (and I clarified a bit) was that compared to the fast almost silent Ring USM of the 135L, 70-300L, etc., the Sigma is noticeably slower and does make a bit of noise. I think if you are used to other Sigma lenses the AF is probably in line with them - but I wouldn't be prepared to call this an "action" lens until a few serious sports shooters try it out.

I hope to use this lens more soon, but I'm a bit swamped with other stuff at the moment. I was just excited to have the lens in hand and wanted to share my first impressions with POTN and Amazon.

BTW, price $499 + $5 shipping direct from Sigma. My guess is it will stay at $499 for a while, just like the FF 35mm 1.4 has held steady at $899.

I thought that sample image looked familiar... ;) Maybe I'll give it a whirl, then, and maybe even find some sports to test it out on!

why not shoot in the proper WB instead of fixing in post. i feel like that would be more effective overall

Here's one more ... sadly work continues to interfere with photography, so I had to grab these pretty late in the day, with less than compelling subject matter.

The good news is at closer distances focus is spot on, and overall I'm still happy with the lens.

(Deleted details of front focusing, no longer relevant since Sigma adjusted the lens.)

Hmm, thanks for the pictures!

The price on this lens is very good i feel, with some hoping it will go down a notch.

Non the less, i might be adding this soon.
Did you purchase online?
If so would you mind me asking where?

Purchased directly from Sigma, $499 plus $5 shipping. Hard to say if the price will drop soon or not; remember the old 30mm 1.4 sold for $400 - $450 right up until the blowout sales started last December, and the FF 35mm 1.4 is holding firm at it's $899 introductory price.

I love that though! its reassuring to me when a price can stick.
not that resale value is something that o overrides me when choosing a lens, i mean somewhat, but more of what im going to get out of the new tool.

well, i was almost thinking about amazon, considering i have a prime mem. , & it would get here this week i would hope.
its $529, something like that, & $500 for the one thats says "may take up to 3 months".
