My wife and I are traditionally wedding photographers but we are meeting with a principal of a school here in Charlotte and he wants us to do photography for sports and other school functions such as banquet events. He mentioned paying for specific pictures, but I dont want to waste our time and he not buy something. How should we do the contract?

Never done this before, need any help we can get!

How do they want to use the photos?
Maybe charge for you time to take the photos he wants and give them license to use them for a set amount of time?

I honestly have no idea haha. We are wedding photographers so they aren't really going into our portfolio unless they are portraits that fit our style.

Well, best I can suggest is this:
Sit down with the principal and see if y'all can agree on how much you'll be paid in return for what you will provide.
I'm guessing he wants something he can stick in the yearbook, or maybe the trophy case, and send to the local newspaper. If, in his mind, it's pretty minimal, he's going to expect to pay an equivalent price.
At any rate, the first step is to find exactly what he wants.

If this is just a side gig, just charge them a flat rate.

Most of the time the photography company shoots for free and sells packages (usually pre sell). Yhen the school also gets a comission. So be prepared for that when you get there. Lifetouch typically gives 25% for the sports/dance stuff
