Good books come from Bryan Peterson (external link), Syl Arena, (external link) and Joe McNally. (external link)

The Strobist web site (external link) also is a recommended resource.

However, understand that photographic lighting is a complex skill, and just reading a book may not be enough to master that skill, which can take years. Learning from a human teacher may be the best method.

There was a good Adorama tutorial. Check their site.

Agree on strobist.com, it's really the best I've seen out there. David changed the way I see the world.

Hobby and NvN are good resources.
The authors mentioned are also good.
Kelby Training is a very good resource, although you'll have to subscribe.

You Tube can be good or bad depending on which videos you choose.

If you can somehow find the Dean Collins series of videos they are a very good resource.

Lighting is a combination of science and art (craft). The best way to learn is to practice the fundimentals you learn until they are second nature.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I really appreciate it. I'm shooting my cousins wedding in June and as it's my first wedding shoot I feel I need as much advice as I can get. If anyone has any advice on first time wedding shoots I'd love to hear it!

good luck , don’t skimp on the stands and gear that holds those expensive lights I just read where someone wishes he would have paid a little more for solid gear stands and umbrella’s and had to purchase the equipment since the cheaper stuff fell apart or wobbled a lot..

It was mentioned above, but Syl Arena's Speedliter's Handbook is great. I checked it out from the library a few days ago and have been reading through it. Good beginner's info and builds up to advanced topics and techniques. It's Canon specific so I've kept my camera close and mimicked what he's teaching as I'm reading. Great book.
