ok its not a problem with my equipment or anything, but I am not able to keep my gear that I buy. I feel like I am a "lens renter" as opposed to an owner. I find I get tired of my lenses and trade them in for other lenses or sell them. I just can not find a lens that I really like and want to keep.

Anyone else have this disease?

I had that going on for a while... until I ended up with the gear I have now... it's quite a glorious thing once you actually have your lens lineup exactly where you want it... the only possible one on the chopping block for me would have to be the 24-70II, as I rarely use it, and I've been toying around with the idea of replacing it with a TS-E

I do this. I like using all different kinds of equipment so I am constantly selling a body or lens.

I am pretty good where I am. It took me 10 years of buying and selling to get here though.

What exactly do you get tired of with the lenses you've tried? What is it you expect/desire from a lens?

Yeah, I don't see myself getting rid of lenses after I get them. Besides a kit lens or something, but that is with my rebel that I loaned to a friend, so I basically view it as not even mine now. I like having a collection and having options, and I want more lenses so I can make more choices with how I shoot.

If I only have access to a handful of lenses, then I only have a handful of options on how I tackle a project. But I really see the 85mm and 28mm f/1.8s staying as go-to lenses for a long time.

I guess it depends whether you are a photographer or an equipment addict.

Justify this with some detail. I'm not sure which side you are trying to offend.

I assure you I am trying to offend no-one. We all get different things from photography and I accept that some derive more pleasure from buying and trying equipment than actual photography. That's fine and dandy. However a photographer who derives his pleasure from taking photographs has little need for constantly changing and updating his gear. Some of the finest photographs on the planet have been taken on eqipment some regards as old hat.

Wow... don't get so touchy:)

Well its all nice to be pithy and all with such a comment. But there are photographers who use a simple kit, and there are photographers who love to buy new toys to expand their tools to fit their vision. Yes there are gear heads too, but your original comment tries to draw some line that likely doesn't exist.

I frequently buy new gear but I don't trade or swap out gear but hand it down to granddaughters or daughters instead. I have passed down bodies and lens.

I agree with you to a certain extent. But looking at it from the other angle and the OP's side, do you ever take a shot, look at it and think it may have been better if it was different, the type of different a better lens or body would give? Most of us (although not all) are always chasing something, better composition, better lighting, better IQ etc. Quite often what we are chasing may be obtainable with different gear. One of my things I often chase is better high ISO shots. While my 5D2 allows me more flexibility in low light than my 40D does, I know if I upgrade to a 5D3 my low light high ISO shots would be better. So, even though I have not upgraded because I do love my 5D2 and 40D in a way I probably have the same disease anyway.
