Hi,
I am working in Photivo and I am experiencing with "Work colorspace" (in settings). I change the default "sRBG - D65" for "Wide Gamut RGB - D50". I really like the result on the screen, but when I save the current pipe it write the file (jpeg) using what seems to be the "sRBG - D65".

How can I make it write jpeg file like what I see on the Photivo screen using "Wide Gamut RGB - D50"? Maybe I am missing something...

Best regards,

Probably Photivo is not a color managed program, because if it were color managed you would not see any difference no matter what space the image was in. Because it is not color managed you are not seeing what is really in the image. Also, WideGamut RGB is a very wide space, much wider than your monitor can display. In fact it is wider than even the best $5,000 monitor can display. Most monitors cannot display more than sRGB, which is a quite narrow gamut, but because that is what most monitors display, sRGB is the international standard for the internet and the color space that most print labs want.

Also you should be aware that editing WideGamut RGB in any bit depth less than 16 bits per channel can result in causing a lot of banding, especially in shadow areas and areas that should have smooth transitions within stretches of near solid color, like the sky. Photivo probably doesn't support more than 8 bits. I would advise staying well away from WideGamut RGB until you have a solid understanding of color management and a definite need to use such a wide space.

Here is what I am talking about. The only thing that changes is the "work colorspace". This is what I see on the screen. When I save it as jpeg, it only looks like the sRGB one, irrespective of the work colorspace.

Wide Gamut:

Weird. No idea about the "logic" the programmers used, and what the "workspace" setting does...

I'd expect the output to match the screen in both cases, since the histogram also seems to reflect the tonal changes.
Edit: I also se a "preview color space". What's that set to?

Hi,
The Preview colorspace is set to:
1. Fast (sRGB preview), other options are ("No optimization" and "Hi Res pre calc")
2. There is a place to load an icc proficle, the default sRGB is used
3. Intent of the profile is set to "perceptual" (no other options)

Well, simple answer: Since the exported image looks like the image with "workspace" set to sRGB (in what application?), set the workspace to "sRGB" and go from there.

I don't know the software, so have no idea what the logic behind it is. Maybe ask the developers?

It seems that when you save the setting that is taken in consideration is in the "Output" tab, under "Output Colorspace". This is what will be used with your saved JPEG, and changing the settings that you described apparently only affect what you see on screen.
If you are producing JPEGs for the web, my advice is to use sRGB everywhere, and try to achieve the desired effect using other settings (white balance, for example).
