So I've recently come across an opportunity for a 24-105l (would be my first L lens) but I've got the tammy 28-75 in my bag already. I like the Tammy a lot, and the f/2.8 is nice to have. That being said, would you consider having both of these lenses in your bag? Or does the 2.8 of the Tammy outweigh the 4L of the 24-105? Maybe the other way around, the 4L outweighs the 2.8 of the Tammy?

Thoughts? Advice?

I think they're just different. The Tamron is great when you want the lightest 2.8 zoom possible and are okay with losing that 4mm on the wide end and not having the best AF system. The Canon is great when you want that awesome range with IS, good AF, and solid build. So, yes I could see having both lenses.

I bought both with the intention of selling one. That was 3 years ago...

Still cheaper than one 24-70.

I've owned a Tamron 28-75 for several years and have always liked it. It's super sharp and a great performer, and the range is very useful. However, in the last year or so I've run up against the limitations of its slow AF system, and about a month ago I decided to try out a 24-105.

The Tamron has stayed in the bag ever since. The 24-105 is a terrific lens: great range, super fast AF, and weather-resistant. I'm thoroughly enjoying it. For me, its benefits have outweighed the f2.8 of the other lens; if I need shallow depth of field, I use a prime. As a result, my much-loved Tamron will be going up for sale soon.

I asked the same question a couple of weeks ago. I have yet to make a decision on which to keep. I’m leaning towards the 24 105 because my tammy really isn’t that sharp wide open, I find myself using it around f3.2. Having both for about 1 month now, I notice I’m not using the tammy all that much. Inside I’m using a speedlite with the 24 105. Outside, the 24 105 once again is my go to because of the fast AF and sharpness wide open. HOWEVER, the tammy is such a handy lightweight lens, I find it hard to get rid of. So, as of right now, both are in my bag.

I thought my old Tamron 28-75 was sharp until the day I got my 24-105. Now I look back at those pictures with the Tamron and I honestly can't believe how bad they were compared to the 24-105, or the 24-70 for that matter.

My choice is Tamron only.
IQ is on pair with my L glass. My copy is sharp enough at 2.8 and good on colors.
Every time I use it I'm surprised how good it is compare to L.

I have the 28-75 F2.8 and the slow focus is now beginning to get to me. Love the lens but without IS and slow focusing I may also be upgrading to a 24-105 F4 soon.

You won't regret it. The focus on the 24-105 is lightning fast.
