Wow, 6 pages later and the only 'teachable' moment is that clearly there are way too many folks wound up far to tight to have a laugh.

For those suggesting me/my daughter have most certainly brought both financial ruin to Lifetouch and the photographer get a grip. We have been subjected to multiple sessions since kindergarten. So for those who are counting, that's 18 sessions so far through the 8th grade. (2x a year. 1in the fall, 1 in the spring).

For the most part we bought them early (who doesn't?), but as of late, I do the home photography. We do, incidentally have 8 more sessions to go (HS years), so they certainly will recoup their massive losses over this debacle.

As for being disrespectful? Give me a break. She cut a funny pose, for a picture she didn't think we'd buy. As for the other kids...that's on them. And the 10 minute comment, maybe it's true maybe not. I wasn't there. And in 8th grade, 1 minute sometimes feels like an hour. If the photog really did hassle with her for 10 minutes, he needs to figure out better time management.

These shoots are more 'cattle call' than portrait sessions.

Regardless, it was a funny moment. I'll be buying the picture, and it will most likely become one of my families favorites only because it shows how goofy she was at this time in her life.

If you can't find humor in life, you must really lead a sad life. As for commenting on my parenting skills, make sure your own house is in order first. You don't know me, my family or anything else.

Thank you for those that actually 'got' the humor. It is encouraging that not everyone that lurks on this board is an uptight, 95 year old yelling to keep the damn kids off the lawn.

From this post it's easy to see where the lack of respect comes from. You have no respect for the photographer's work and it's trickled down from there, by your example. It's not about having a sense of humor.

It really wasn't your daughter's actions that initially even caused me pause. It was the way your first post dripped with superiority. These idiots were trying to take photos, doing their job, what a bunch of fools. That's the way it came off. I still contend that it's not even that funny. Nothing kids that age do is ever half as funny as they think it is.

I'd love to see the photos, but at the same time, I never put pictures of my family online, so don't. But I had at least as good a laugh as you did, hope my kids get this creative with this crummy company! I'd still not buy into their soft extortion scam, but I'd scan it at least.

The ones I got yesterday will sit on my shelf until they come by to pick them up or pay my kids to deliver them back to school.

And in case anyone wonders, no, I don't have any respect for that company or the "professional photographers" that run through thousands of kids in front of a greenscreen. No craft or art in that. Mass produced kitsch.

Respect begets respect. Just because you don't respect it doesn't mean it's not respectable. It's their job. Not everyone has the luxury of having 'art' or 'craft' in their job.

pardon me for being so late to the party, but i believe i wasted more time reading this entire thread than was wasted for the poor photographer, and the best i can tell is that our civilization is going to hell in a hand-basket.

kids being kids, kids having fun, kids being inappropriate.

kids with no clue that the burden of the future is on their shoulders and that if they cannot demonstrate more maturity, responsibility, and concern for others, we are all doomed.

try this on: my 16-year-old daughter makes good grades, scored pretty well on her SAT, has a decent class rank, and has aspirations of becoming a doctor some day. she's active in our church and community. she's not overly athletic, but likes participating in team sports. she doesn't drink, doesn't smoke, doesn't do drugs, seems to be a pretty good kid, and has never given us a reason not to trust her.

i asked her what she would think if it was spring picture day and, knowing that i never buy those pictures, she decided to "pose" like the op's daughter, what she would think if everyone else after her decided to do the same thing.

she told me she thought it would be hilarious.

i asked her if she would feel responsible for the others copying her and she asked me, "why should i? it's their decision."

i asked her how she would feel about it if the photographer lost money because the other parents didn't buy any packages. she told me "that would suck, but wait a minute. in the fall, when they do yearbook photos, they don't let you do anything but the yearbook pose. he [the photographer] should have gotten things under control if he thought it was going to cost him money. and it's not my fault if other kids copy me. jeez, dad, we'd just be having fun. it's what kids do!"

yep, we're going down the tubes. disrespectful, unrepentant, self-centered, fun-loving, immature, unparented, politically incorrect kids are going to ruin everything...

Who are you kidding. My first post dripped with superiority? Nonsense. I never downed the photographer, or commented on his picture taking ability. In fact I felt sorry for him as I had been a jr high sub teacher and know kids can be idiots. But that non withstanding, the story is funny. I don't like life touch, but that's more is business model.
