A couple more shots of chinstrap penguins from our recent trip. Penguins build nests of stones just up off the ground (2). One of their favourite pastimes is stealing stones (1) from their neighbours...
1) 100-400 @ 400mm; F7.1; 1/400
2) 100-400 @ 400mm; F9; 1/320

C&C always appreciated,
Cheers,

Darn thiefs eh?

Well i like the expossure in both shots, black and white subject can be very tricky to exposse most of the time.
You either burn the whites or have no detail in the blacks.
Good work.

Where were they taken?

Thanks,
Dimitri, these were taken at a small colony of chinstraps on Orne Island, in the South Shetlands just off the Antarctic peninsula. They are very happy with people going to about 4 meters away which makes it a bit easier to get some pictures.

Cheers,

Niall

I love penguins! These are very nice pics. Never even heard of "chinstrap" before.
