Hello Everyone

70-200 IS II is sharp wide open and 4 stop IS but observed that the bokeh is very distinctive with sharp edges ans not as dreamy and creamy as the IS ver 1. I have Ver 1 and nearly about to upgrade to IS ver 2 but will i be losing that dreamy bokeh from all my future pics and the cost of sharper pics wide open.

Do the Ver 2 user miss that bokeh or is it just my illusion
thanks in advance for the feed back
regards
Faisal

It looks to me as if the Mark II delivers a bit more contrast than the original lens, which in some situations is bound to make background blur look more coarse. It will particularly show up when the background has as strong or stronger contrast than the subject.

I don't see how this would be avoidable... the lens can't selectively apply different contrast to different areas of the image.

I think you need some monitor adjustment.
There is a very obvious difference between the left and right.

They are good examples. amfoto1's explanation makes sense.
While the lens cannot selectively reduce contrast, we can in pp..
(fully aware 100% crop peeping here)

bobbyz - I'm interested in this, just got a used II 2 days ago...

I notice in the examples, it appears entire image has more contrast - ie even the dust spots appear to have more contrast. Hard to line up the same spots, but overall all spots on the right seem darker.

Like your recent examples very much.
