Just this morning, took delivery of my "new" refurb 24-105. Looks pristine, and both rings are very smooth. UA date code. Can't wait to try it out!

Try shooting at 105mm f4.5 and 1/10 shutter speed (brace yourself against something). UA date code 24-105's have a higher than normal chance of having a bad circuit board which will cause the IS system to create blur in your slow SS shots when the aperture is closed down past wide open. The blur will be quite consistent and diagonal, not all over the place as is normal with camera shake.

@Sirrith: I'll give that a shot; hopefully, that was checked during the refurb process.

That was one of the main reasons I waited for a refurb, rather than buying
new or used.

@Sirrith: I tried your test. I took 2 shots at 1/10, 105mm, one at 4.0 and one at 5.0, handheld, IS on.
It passed with flying colors!!

Congrats on the new lens! While it is not my favourite lens it is one I can never bring myself to sell because of its verstility and consistency. You will get plenty of use out of it and love it.

Me either Lloyd, so many times I've been tempted, but I know I never will.

Cheers,
