Northbound out of Chattanooga, 8735 & 2 slave units putting out a bit of diesel exhaust. Not my best shot of late - combination of overcast skies, and motion blur (I was still getting my position up on a rock when the train rounded the corner), but thanks to the wonders of sharpening and small web prints, it's useable for this purpose.

Seconds later at 28 mm, as the lead engine passes by (and another salvaged shot - sometimes, I meter like an idiot):

And finally, the best shot of the day (and also the most meaningless...), somebody left their car keys hanging on this pole. From the looks of things, they've been there for at least a couple of weeks:

Thanks! Actually, it's my favorite as well. If only I had gotten my footing set before the shot. I was standing about 2-3 feet up on an embankment with one foot on a large rock and was trying to position myself for the next train when I heard him coming around the bend. I managed to get the shot, but the full-sized version is rather soft all over due to a bit of motion blur.

Wowzers!

I am so jealous of you guys who have lots of twisty track with trees and stuff.

Out here, everything is straight, no trees, and all the locomotives are yellow.

You've given me a headache, and I'm going to bed.

I'm not short. I'm concentrated awesome!

The tracks were perfectly straight until Sherman came along. :)

Were they yellow like this?

Well, that's what you get for trying to leave the Union. The very thought of it.

Thanks, All.

More FYI - the first shot was the "planned" shot, but like most situations, when I show up to take pictures, I keep taking them under the theory that the occasional gem might jump out. It looks like some forethought is starting to bring about better results.

The downside to that location is that the sun, had it been out, would have been looking towards me at that time of the day. Southbound trains have a higher percentage of success here.

Yea the frist one works best for me as well. How do you leave your car keys on a pole and still manage to get home? LOL. Nice shots. Is that last one in Berea (that other guy in the pic looks like a friend of mine)?

Yes, it is in Berea. Not my normal stomping ground since I live about 575 miles away, but when I'm in Cleveland, I make it a point to hit all the favorite railroad spots.

I plucked that image out of my stable of fine (and not-so-fine) railroad images so that I could flex my internet muscles by showing a Yellow engine to Belmondo.
