Was able to get some floor shots at the final day of the AAU tournament. These little guys really get after it in their own way. The little Tribe team finished second. The shots were taken with my new 50mm f1.4 at ISO of 1600 and 1/250 at 3.2.

Comments and advice always welcome. If you would like to make changes, please tell me what you did.

Good shots of the little guys...it looks like you were on the floor for the second one. I have just started shooting my sons(11 year olds) team also. My first effort with the new camera and lens was less than spectacular....Going to change some stuff and have a another go at it next weekend.

Did you unsharp mask the pictures or increase contrast? The light washed the flesh color slightly and also the second one has a little haze.

The pictures are very good with no blur. The 50 1.4 is great, isn't it?

great! were you able to open it up to f/1.4 at all? i just ordered and can't wait until the next local HS b-game.

ps. i liked your subject "11yr old basketball is intense" but have you ever seen 11 yr. old hockey?! LOL. my nephew's friend saw his mother, my sister and myself in the stands so this little guy comes skating over full speed towards us and checks himself into the glass! LOL these kids think it's so cool!

cking2--actually on the floor for both, standing for the first and sitting for the second.

SuzyView--didn't do either, but you are right the 50 is great--VA here also, SW part

SgWRX--didn't go to 1.4. Haven't seen the hockey at that age level, but there are times these guys get pretty rough also.

Thanks for your comments.

My sons play soccer here in Prince William, and it's all fun, no real competition. My 6 year old is a natural athlete. He scores around 4 goals a game. Love those kids and their sports! I use my 85 1.8 most of the time, though. It gets in so tight and it's so fast. I haven't used the 50 1.4 yet because I just got it for Christmas. I've used it for portraits and weddings this winter. Can't wait until the grass turns green. :)

I love the action you captured in the second one. Your timing is great! One can only imagine what they'll be like when they're in high school. You might try setting your aperture on 1.8 or 2.0 to brighten your image a bit and perhaps increasing your shutter speed for a sharper picture. Those little guys tend to move pretty fast!
