Threatened with arrest at the Luxor in Las Vegas for shooting these...

These were shot this last week and got the attention of two armed Luxor security guards. These two guards seemed to have an issue with the presence of my tripod.

One of the security guards asked me to delete all of my photos to which I politely refused. I asked why he was demanding me delete my photos, to which he replied that I would not understand their security policies, and I could be arrested for resisting their orders.

He then threatened to call the police, which I agreed may be the best approach since I was not going to be deleting any of my photos. After a few tense moments and me asking repeatedly whether I was free to go, they relented and told me to not continue to shoot with the "camera stand."

Nice pictures though, glad you didn't bother listening to them.

I think the tricky thing is if you were on their private property vs. on public road/sidewalk.

I agree, I was concerned that since I was on private property that I would ultimately not have the encounter go my way, but I figured if acted confidently in me being in the right that they would back down, and thank you!

Yeah, well done.

As you were on private property, they had every right to ask you to stop shooting and move on, or just to stop using the tripod (quite a common request, as they can be a trip hazard). However, they cannot demand you delete the images you have already taken.

Actually, it has been demonstrated that in fact, they can demand he delete the images.

However, they can't compell him to do so.

Great pictures, glad you stood on your feet and kept them.

OK, if you are being pedantic. They can of course demand whatever they like. They can demand he drops his trousers, stands on one leg and sings yankee doodle dandy if they feel like it.

What was clearly meant was that they have no right to make him delete them

Awesome pictures, good job not listening. I've seen photogs outside of the hotels in Vegas before with tripods. I'm not sure if they had permission or any other special rights. I don't see what the problem would have been unless you were walking into areas that are usually off limits.

I looked at the rest of your photos on Flikr, those are some really awesome shots! I also noticed the one of a slot machine. How did they feel about another camera in the casino, or did you just shoot first and ask questions later?

The funny thing is that security at The Mirage offered to let me shoot in areas that were off limits with the tripod...the only one that seems to have issue with me and my tripod was the Luxor. The slot machine shot was at the 4 Queens on Fremont Street, no one gave me a second look the whole time I was in there with my gripped 6D.

Ive been followed by a local police car at night before, think he/she realized sooner than later ,"im just shooting pictures not people."
