Light painting, fluorescent or LED?

Just have a coupe brief questions about a light painting setup for cars.
I have already experimented with my softbox was able to get some good results, just need something more portable.

From searching around the forum, it seems like people had good results with tube style lighting, such as 2 Fluorescent Lamp's joined together, or those LED tube lights.


Anyone have experience with either one of the two? not sure which would be better.

and I'd try and diffuse the light a bit better, maybe put a white T-shirt over these.

I'm using both. I use the Video light for interior, as it's better to move them around in cramped spaces.

The work light I used for exterior, but somehow find that it's less bright. You have to put something over it to diffuse, if not you'll get series of small light streak instead of one large light streak.

I would go with the florescent lights since they spread the light a little better than LED's. I was looking for some LED work lights for a reasonable price to mess around with. Instead Ive been using a recharable spotlight with great success. If your lighting a bigger area, you will need something bigger but my results with this exact light have been great.

I placed a thin sheet over the front to spread the light a little more and its been working great. This is also a weaker option, they have a 2 million candle power option and more expensive lights with HID bulbs which you could attach softboxes too.

Why not get an underhood work light? They are wide enough to span across the hood of a car, or roughly the length of a florescent tube.

I already got this cordless unit which has two florescent tube lights, it was only $45 shipped so I'll get to test it out soon

I got an underhood light, but for about 40$. Works Good but not perfect, not smooth enough and the spaces between the led lights look horrible on the car. not i got a neon lamp from a hardware store, power conversion for my car and an extension cable. will test it on weekend

This was done with a £20 bike light put inot a home made white box, one side open with a white fabric over it. Its like a 50cm x 10cm light box

bottom of the page. Left hand side. That's what I use. Rechargeable LED. The hard part is finding a way to diffuse the light.

I will admit it may be nicer to have something with more lighting area but for messing around on a budget this can work well. I cloth over the LED wand may work well too, but neither of those have the intensity that these spot lights have.

Which light painting are you using? I am new to the business so please guide me which will be bese and way to use it.. Waiting for reply.,Thanks in advance
