I would be greatful if anyone can take a shot at this!

I have what I think is a Photoshop cloning challenge. I made a mistake when I took this shot. I was shielding the sun with my hand, and now my hand is in the picture (upper left corner)! Can it be cloned out?

Please, help me with this one. Together with three of my other pics, this one made it by popular vote to be printed (in 16x20) and framed at work. I need to get it fixed.

You have my permission to edit the original, which can be downloaded at

http://www.it.uu.se/~johans/CRW_4379.CRW (external link)

If possible, I want to learn how it's done.

I attach a small jpeg so you can get an idea of how little/much of the hand that is going to be in the final pic.

Thanks so much,

Enigma

Yeah, bad link. Here is my 2 min try on the small one. Clone tool in CS2. Right side might need some more work. Congrats and nice shot.

How did you do that, FlyACL?

I do not have PSCS (only 5.5, I think) and if there is such a tool (cloning) in my stone-age version I would not know how to use it.

What is the problem in the right hand side, in your opinion?

Anyone, please? (I refuse to believe this challenge proved to be too hard for you guys:-)

Thanks for a great forum!

I just used the clone tool. It was pretty simple while I am not totally familar with CS5.5, I am sure you have something similar. For the most part I took a sample form the sky next to the dark part and just "painted" in the clone of that. My comment on the right side was due to my 2 min quick fix, I think I smudged the top right a little more then I should have. If I get time tomorrow, I will try it again on the bigger file.

Good luck~

Doesn't v 5.5 have the Clone Stamp Tool? It should be in the left side of the tool bar about 1/3 of the way down.

Yes, I checked and it's there. But I don't have a clue how to use it. I even tried it. I think I understand the basic idea: You are supposed to select a "sample" (what you want to clone FROM), and then brush away in the area you want to clone TO. I just can't produce anything that looks better than if my five-year-old son would have "helped" me drawing a picture:-(

Remember also, this image is going to be printed in 20x16 and framed at my work so hundreds of people can see it. I am very nervous about this. The PS work has to be done _really_ well.

I hoping flyACL will take a shot at it, but anyone is welcome to give it a try. I really want to learn how to do this.

Thanks for all interest,

Enigma

I tried my hand at it, here is the picture. I had to lessen the quality some in order for imageshack to accept it. If you want the full version just PM me. If it sucks let me know!

Prologue seems to have gotten all fixed up for you. The clone tool is very easy to use. Just might take a couple of tries to get it just how you want. My only real tip to useing it is to try and sample from as close to the area you are trying to fix. Otherwise it can be off quite a bit and look strange. Also try and do small sections at a time.

To use it just hold ALT and click where you want to sample from. Then paint over the dark part. Watch as your "sample" area follows behind your brush. Try and keep it in the "good" part of the image. I will work on it as well and post a link that you can download it from. But I really think you will be able to do it yourself with a little trial and error.

Take care~

Up in the left hand corner of the sky I had to clone all of the hand away, and then I applied a gaussian blur to the area in order to cover up any little patterns that develop. You can't do that to the mountain side though, it would make it appear out of focus.

OK, here is my other try. I didn't adjust anything else. Just removed the hand. There is also a link for the full size JPG you can download and tweak some more if you like. Take care~

Thanks so much, FlyACL!

As I need to work on it some more, is there any chance I can get my hands on the tiff?

Also, thanks for describing the technique! I will definetely try it again.

Thank you so much!

Can you please let the link remain for another 8 hours or so? I need to download it to my home PC tonight.

Thanks,
