Alrighty, since The Google is giving me a million suggestions on where to go in Costa Rica, I'm hoping my friends here on PotN might help me narrow it down. Here are the facts:

1. Travel dates are in mid-August.
2. Planning to stay 3 nights (after a conference I'm attending).
3. Would like to stay at an All-Inclusive beach resort that doesn't cost a fortune (say US$130/night or so).
4. Would like to get from said resort into the rain forest for birds and waterfalls.
5. Would prefer NOT to rent a car
6. Gotta get from my hotel in San Jose to the resort, then from the resort to the San Jose airport.

I'm sure a lot of you have been to CR, so any suggestions?

Thanks.

I cannot help on the place to stay - we stayed in small inns and rented condos etc and it has been some time ago. At the time I went I was not into photography but there are plenty of awesome places (volcano, beach/water, rain forest etc.). Be very careful with your equipment is an understatement. Looks like plenty of organized gangs of youths that went to resell our equipment.

I think you kight need to raise your budget a bit. A good place to head to would be Manuel Antonio or maybe somewhere like Jaco, both on Costa Rica's Pacific coast a few hours drive from San Jose.

Costa Rica's coast has many a fine beach, like the one above which can be found near Manuel Antonio. That place rocks!
