Last night, I think I was a bit too distracted to take pics of the scenes. So I've only come back with a handful, and 90% of my friend Lisa, with her hand over her face.

Anyway, with the few landscapes that I got, I decided to edit them rather differently to my usual style. I'm still learning photoshop and details, but these were basically all done in RSE.

When I first arrived there, there was a touch of sun on the hills, creating a nice light, but that only lasted 5min, and then it was overcast. Couldn't shoot too much.

First of all, trying a couple of variations with the shot I shared in People section.
I also cloned out 3 people and a dog in the background, (Tim recommended that. :))

Something different

Lifeless (apart from the lone stroller on beach)

And finally, sorry for the repost, AGAIN, but it's my favourite Bethell's shot, almost 1 year ago, when I first got my 20D

I just wish the sky was this nice last night.

I know most probably won't like what I'm doing. But how does everyone find their own style? By trial and error. :)

i like the first one better than the second. but they are both interesting to look at. the last one is great. As to how folks find their styles.. that's a bit of a loaded question. I suppose it'd be by shooting what you see in front of you, everyone sees the world differently. I've learned that shooting with my uncle and cousin. the three of us will be side by side and none of us will have an identical photo.. just my two cents anyway... Sari.

the first shot makes the main emphasis the lovely young lady Lisa.

an idea for the second would be to replace that 'Lisa' with the 'Lisa' from the first, again to add emphasis.

the rest of them are great shot as well

The third is tops at the bottom right corner :)
For use of the whole pic, I'd just vanquish the folks in it, down by the surf life saving tower

I was looking at those people, and it was going to be a in a step to edit them out, but seemed to have just clicked save.

It would be rather easy to move the tower from the 2nd pic, across to where the people are. :D

Crop the whole pic to maybe the bottom right 2.5 - 3inches-ish squared, where you just see the curve of the waves breaking at the sand.
See if that looks any good, or if I'm just a goober (possibly option #2 :p)

[edit] Actually, don't. I just played, and your version is much better [/edit]

It'll be easier for you to just show me your preferred crop. :)

I don't usually give permission for people to touch my stuff, bad experiences.

The first one will probably win a competition, if the hand was away from her face it would win, no doubt about it. I don't like the colors in the 2nd. I love #3, I like #4, and the rest I find ok.

I still want lessons - i'll pay in beer ;) (I still owe you a drink or three for your help with the last wedding too)

Nice shots, Warren. I remember being on a beach near Cape Foulwind that looked similar to that. Is that the same place?

No, this is in West Auckland, the beach in which Xena was shot at. ;)

Thanks Dimitri
