There has been some discussion on here about a group thread, to which people post their SOOC images. The focus of the thread would be on the unedited images themselves, and the camera settings used to create the image. This thread would not include discussions about editing.

So, what section of the forum would this thread fit into? Of course, it would have to be one of the sections falling under the "Photo Sharing" heading, as it would most definitely be a photo sharing thread.

The problem I see, however, is that all of the sections under that heading are very specific to a particular genre or subject matter - for example, "Wildlife", "Weddings & Other Family Events", "Sports", "Macro", etc. This thread would include unedited photos from any and all genres - so it really couldn't be pigeon-holed into any of the existing sections.

And, of course, it couldn't go under the "Raw, Post Processing, & Printing" section because:
1) that is not in a photo sharing section - it is under a discussion section
2) this proposed thread would not be about post processing, and it would not be about printing, and it would not necessarily be about RAW file formats . . . so it really wouldn't fit into a section that it is, well, not about.

So, now that I have discussed where it would not fit, I would like some input as to where it would fit. I do think there could be some value to the thread, as many of us are interested in seeing what just a camera is capable of producing, independent of any editing software.

I am aware that there are some existing threads that show images before editing and after editing, but this would be unique in that it would only show the unedited files . . . who knows, maybe some of the images posted never would be edited - there may simply be no need to make any adjustments to them.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

Good luck.

I agree with the Wonder from Down Under. Competitions is the only photo share forum that is not subject specific. If it does need to be moved then it will be done without prejudice.

Ok . . . but I really don't want it to be a competition. So, can it be in "Competitions", even though I would state that there is no competition at all. Would it confuse people, having it in the "competitions" category when in fact it will not be a competition? Would it tend to not get a lot of traffic if it is in that section? I am concerned that the only people who would ever click on the competition category are those who are interested in competitions. I myself have not looked at a single thing in that category for months and months and months. Hmmmm. Maybe this thread will just never get started, simply because it dose not seem to have a place into which it fits with precision.

More of a compilation than a competition. I don't know where else it would fit.

Talk About Photography, maybe, or, if you're restricting it to EOS digitals, the EOS forum since it'd be showcasing the camera's inherent capabilities unfiltered by post-processing. Would you be expecting images to have been shot in JPEG, not RAW, since RAW virtually requires post-processing?

Don't worry, not everybody joining a "Competitions" want to 'win' a competition; many people here in POTN just want to participation and having fun :).

Either RAW or jPeg would be fine. I only mean that the photos would be unedited - meaning no intentional, deliberate adjustments made to saturation, contrast, sharpening, exposure, cropping, etc.

I know that from a semantic standpoint, every image is, technically, "processed". And that just converting from RAW to jPeg does, technically, "process" the image - but such processing is inadvertent, and only happens by default when file formats are changed.
