The snow has finally melted completely, temps are still cool with rain everyday so the Cardinals are still coming into my front yard for their daily free meal. For such a long time I was shooting them against snow and now that it is gone I'm finding exposing them against the green and grey backgrounds just as much of a challenge as they won't stay still for long. The number has fallen from a high of 32 Cardinals to about 20 so they have given me a lot of practice which I need.

The Redbud trees are just starting to bloom and the Scarlet Maple is budding so it won't be long until the birds will be much harder to see.

Nicely done Grizz, you are right, they are hard with all the green, these look like cloudy day shots, the best time for these guys, the sun makes it very hard. I like the last one best, nice details! Well done!

Very pretty shots. I like the second one, with the red buds coming out beside his redness. We are nowhere near having buds yet , if that makes you feel better ;)

Thanks to everyone for the nice comments, I'm starting to get some decent bird shots thanks to many of you that have made helpful suggestions and post wonderful shots of your own.
These shots were taken during heavy cloud cover with my Sigma set at 500mm 1/500, f8, ISO from 1250 to 1600. Tomorrows pics will have water for a background as the flooding has begun here, extremely heavy rain so yet another challenge.
And yes Ian, this may not be nice of me to say but it does make me feel better to know that I'm finally ahead of somebody when it comes to having leaves and green grass. Friday's forecast has my temps going to the upper 20's though, not a good forecast for my area.
