Expanded flash protocol allows for these features over the 580EXII:
- 5 groups, rather than 3 (A-E, rather than A-C)
- Group mode (mixed M, eTTL/Ratios, and MUILTI control of flashes)
- ID codes (i.e., 4-digit security codes on top of the 15 channels, gives you around 150,000 virtual channels--no more need for PW Custom IDs if you shoot at the Olympics)
- You can trigger multiple camera shutters from a remote flash (i.e., the 600EX-RT in your hand can trigger 5DIII that has a 600EX-RT mounted on it).
You'll have the better UI and radio triggering with any Canon camera body, but these additional features, iirc, require the 2012 models. No idea, however, if the T5i can do all this stuff, too.

Are there any 3rd party triggers or receivers that will talk to the 600?
Nope. Not yet.
Best info on the 600EX-RTs is basically those Syl Arena videos on
http://cpn.canon-europe.com …a_new_speedlite_system.do![]()
He has one video where he directly compares the 580EXII to the 600EX-RT.
