Anyone using the Gitzo 5542LS.......share some insight.
I intend purchasing this tripod to fit a wimberley gimbal and 600mm lens and 1dx.
Is it worth it in your opinion.
Thanks for your input.

FYI: It is mounted with a Markins Q20 ball head, Wimberley Sidekick, all setup to hold a Canon 7D with EF 500mm f/4L II IS USM lens (sometimes 2X III teleconverter). I have no regrets with this setup at all and if required to replace would not hesitate to get the same exact setup. I would most likely feel the same had I purchased the 5542LS, which I considered, however I found the 5532LS on ebay new for $660. 7D, 17-55mm f/2.8, IS USM; 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS II USM; 500mm f/4, L IS II USM, Canon EF 1.4X III, EF 100mm f/2.8 macro L

Apr 18, 2013 19:35 | #3 I don't have a 5 series Gitzo, but (until recently) I did have the 600 F4 L IS. I use a Gitzo 3530 LS with a Wimberley 2 head and find it entirely adequate for a 600 and it is 1 Kilo lighter. When you are lugging around a 600 F4 any weight saving is a big advantage! Life is for living, cameras are to capture it (one day I will learn how!).

Ample plenty tripod to support the load and dampen vibes. The above mentioned weight savings could be a life saver if you'll be mobile. I appreciate your concern about the weight of a 600, but I think you'll find that even the MkI lens and a 1-series body will only add up to just over 1/3 of the conservative rating of 39lbs capacity for a 3-series set of legs. If your 600 is a MkII even better as it weighs almost the same as my 500 MkI. Steve

butterfly2937 Cream of the Crop More info | I just bought it for my 600mm f/4 IS II and love it. No vibration even when very windy. Rock solid suport and the top plate securely lock in place so I can carry my tripod over my shoulder and know everything is secure. I use a wimberley II head. The problem is not the weight but the length of the lens. the longer the lens the more any wind will cause vibration. The larger leg spread and beefier legs do add allot more stability.
