Background: I had my t3i for a 8 months, I am want to upgrade to a better camera. I am not willing to pay for a mark series or a 1D or 6D at the moment. I am either looking at the 7D or 7D ii. The only flaw to my t3i is that I want the shutter speed to be fast. I love the image quality of my t3i, but I feel like it is limiting when it comes to burst shots.

Question: So my question is should I upgrade?

When you say shutter speed i assume you mean Frames Per Second (fps)? The 7d will give similar quality shots to your t3i with 8fps. the 60d similar with 5 fps. These cameras are also built better and have better autofocus. There is no definite answer to this. Do you shoot sports or moving things. Would your current camera be good enough at 3 or 4 fps if more were in focus. What do you mostly like to shoot and what are your lenses?

Answer: Yes it is frames per second. I know it gives out the same quality shots. I would like a better autofocus. It feels like the t3i's auto focus is super slow. I shot a lot of tennis, badminton, and racing. Also wildlife.
I am using the 70-200mm f/2.4, 50mm f/1.4, and the kit lens.

Just looking you seem to have really good lenses so they are not holding you back. as a side suggestion to upgrading to a 7d etc (which would be your obvious choice here) have a look below at the 1d mark ii thread and there is also a 1d mark ii as an alternative to the 7d. These cameras can be picked up very cheaply and if your in ok light have excellent af and 8fps. This would also give 2 different fov for each of your lenses (except the kit lens)

I think 7d's great with it's 8 fps compared to a 600d/t3i with 3.7 fps only.

Answer: the thing is that I would get the mark series, but I feel like the camera is too heavy to hold on to. And the 1D is just too big for my style. I don't mind a 4 year old camera since it still beats anything out right now. And if I get the newer 7D ii, it would be best of both worlds due to the durability, newer sensor, and more compatible outputs. I know with the new firmware, it makes the 7D A LOT better. That is why I am confuse, if I should upgrade to a 7D series or just keep my t3i.

7d is a great choice. Fast well built and good image quality. You wouldn't be dissappointed

The 7d2 doesn't exist at the moment, so you may be waiting around a while. Prices on 7d's are fairly cheap now ~800-900. I'd say go for one.

Or you can PM about buying my 1d3, which is for sale on the boards here XD

You're not going to get the 7D2 for 600-700. It will be at least 2.5-3x that amount, my guess. Maybe what you mean is that once the 7D2 is released (keep in mind, we have no idea when that may be), the 7D1 will drop in price to the 600-700 range? Perhaps....

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

I can either get 7D1 for 600-700 or 1500 for a 7D2. That is my estimate on the 7D2's body estimate price once it comes out.

if you are looking at spending 600-700 for a 7d, versus ~1500 7d2, thats a huge difference in cost...why not go for a ~1500 body now?

Are you autofocusing in live view? 70-200 f/2.8 should af quickly on a t3i. 7d or 60d will do better; but t3i shouldn't seem slow unless you're in poor light/etc (Where tennis would be outdoors/good light I'd think)
