One eye is blurry: do you alternate between left and right eye to shoot?

For most of my life my vision has been perfect. And I dont wear glasses (trying to avoid having to). But I think my left eye is going bad. With both eyes open everything is fine, I can see far and near and read.

Most of the time, I use my dominant eye (right) to shoot. But once in a while because of haste or comfort, and because it never really mattered before--my viewfinder goes on my left eye. But these days, with my right eye closed and left eye through the viewfinder--I notice that it looks slightly out of focus. I try refocusing and then realize im using my newly deteriorated less than stellar left eye. In those instances with the shot in sight, i just trust my camera's in focus and click the shutter hoping it got it correct.

When my right eye starts going bad too, I guess I will have to get it fixed.

-Do any of you have only one bad eyesight?

Use live view and use both your eyes.

I don't really have a dominant eye. When using the VF I tend to use my right eye more often, wait.. no.. my left eye.. no.. right.. I don't know, I use them both.

Well I have glasses but I almost always use my left eye and it is my slightly worse eye. Although I have used my right eye but it is weird to use it. haha

interesting. I used to use my right eye, but now left because I think my right's gone blind. I went to the opt and got an eye exam and my right was really bad. I was hoping new glasses would fix the problem but it was worst then my original.

I use either eye, depends on what I'm shooting and where it is in correlation to me... usually use my right eye though. I find it strange when people say that their "x eye" is "better" since if you have glasses/contacts shouldn't both eyes be equal?

I have fairly bad astigmatism and experience the same thing, but with the same eye depending on whether I'm wearing contacts, glasses, or a different pair of glasses. What I do is before shooting, AF on something close by in good light then adjust the diopter for that session. If I have time, sometimes I'll do a manual focus after that and take a test shot and then chimp it without the glasses (or with a pair of cheaters if I'm wearing contacts).

If I've forgotten to do that, I use your method for the shot then quickly use the ground to adjust the diopter before shooting any more.

I'm left handed and right eye dominant. I instinctively want to use my left eye, make myself use my right eye. It's interesting at the range, too. I shoot left handed, with both eyes open, using my right eye to sight, for pistol.

I only use my left eye.....only one I have.

If I am shooting with a DSLR I use my right eye but If I'm shooting with my Leica M I try to keep both eyes open. I wear glasses. I keep them on when using a DSLR. I have to take them off for the Leica or else I can't see the full view in the viewfinder.

There are dioptric adjustment lenses that slip over the viewfinder to help when your preferred eye exceeds the range of the built in adjustment.

I just bought one for my 50E film body that doesn't have dioptric adjustment. They take the place of the standard eyecup.
