Booked a Disney Cruise to western Carribean

I just booked a Disney Cruise for the family, for October of this year. We are departing out of Galveston, Texas, and will be stopping on Grand Cayman, Foulmoth Jamaica, and Cozumel, Mexico.

Not really sure what to expect, and i'm trying to plan out what gear to bring. Probably bringing the following:

5DIII
24-105
50 1.4
Hyper drive backup
580ex

Not sure about 70-200 or 70-300...

I've been thinking about picking up a 85 1.8 for while for portrait work, but since I jumped to FF, I'm lacking in the UW department (which my 10-22 currently fills on my 7D). In that case, a 17-40 may do the trick. Wish I could afford a 16-35, but that's just not in the cards... anyways, as this vacation will likely be more of a landscape type trip, do you think I will need wider than 24mm? Anyone been to any of these ports? Any suggestions?

Also, do you think lugging my tripod would make sense? I wouldn't feel comfortable using it to take pics of my family and I on shore,we usually use an older point and shoot for that (just in case the person just runs with it).

As i dont have much photography experience, I do have TONS of Disney experience. My suggestion is to go as light as possible... a wide angle for island and landscape photos and a zoom tele as a 'do all' type lense should suffice, IMO. There will definately be numerous portrait oppertunities as well with characters and if your stopping at Disney's private island [Castaway cay]. But your 24-105 will be perfect. As for the tripod, again if its small and light enough AND if you have an outside stateroom, id say go for it!! If you do not have the outside stateroom, I dont see any use for it other than extra weight for you to carry [and if your traveling with kids, you will have pleanty of stuff to carry already!!]. We have a veranda room, but not sure which side we'll be on... we are flying business class so weight won't be an issue, we're allowed up to 70lbs and our bags are free.

The 70-200 will stay home, I don't forsee any need for it... I found some cruise forums with photography sections, and I've been looking at he ports were stopping at...

The last 2 cruises I've taken were with my current gear setup. I think you will be frustrated if you hope to get early morning or late evening shots on shore using the tripod.

You will be on board ship during those times, except if you overnight in a port. I took my tripod last summer on a Med cruise only because we overnighted in Venice. That's the only time I used it.

The tripod could be used for on board shots, but I have found it hit and miss. Shooting the shore, with tripod, from a moving ship is not going to produce many keepers.

I would take the 5D3, 24-105, the 50 & a flash

My daughter and I went on an eastern Carribean cruise. I took my 17-40, 24-105 and 50.14 and flash. The 24-105 makes a great walk around lens and the 50 1.4 is good on board and at night.
