I have never done this before; so if somebody could explain the process in detail it would be much appreciated. I have a bunch of rectangular color slides that I would like to scan and convert to jpegs for internet use. My scanner is a CanoScan 8600f and I use PhotoShop CS3 extended. Also, I do not have a slide holder. Is that a must? Any explanation of the process e.g. scanner settings, etc. would be much appreciated.

I have the Canon 8800F and have used it to convert hundreds of slides and negatives. The process is very easy and the results are just spectacular, assuming your original is good to begin with. Once converted the files are workable in PS just as the files out of your camera.

The process, such as it is, is really simple. I set the scanner to it's maximum DPI for the proper medium, slide, color or B&W negative......hit go and then save the result.

The problem you appear to have is the missing holder. That is critical. I have scanned negatives of odd sizes that I didn't have a holder for and the results were unacceptable so I had to make one.

What became of the holder that came with the scanner? I would imagine you could get a replacement from Canon. You will need it.

Thank you very much. I searched my house and did find the holders and I have done a few scans that came out great. Thank you.
