Respect his decision regarding putting his family first, as well as probably securing his financial future with his Montpelier contract coming up, but it must have been awfully hard to turn down the AB jersey, given how well he was playing.

Yeah for sure, I think he had signed with Montpelier before he came into such devastating form and did try he best to get out of the contract but it was too late. He's got a 4 year contract in France but hopefully we will se him back sooner rather than later

Good work on the ITM matches, some really good action shots. Great to get the opportunity to get close to action (I've had the chance to do a few Phoenix matches), as a totally different perspective from grandstand shooting. You've done well with the lighting.

Cheers
Andrew

Thanks Andrew, It is awesome getting on the side line, the lighting is tough as far as having to crank the iso up but with the artificial lighting there isn't the problem of shadows.

I see you sold the 100-400mm. How did you find it? I was wondering about one of those to get a bit more length, though relatively slow.

Yeah It was a good lens but I love the 70-200f2.8, the image quality is so much better.
The only sport the 100-400 was better for in my opinion was cricket where reach was the most important thing but with most sports I pick a spot on the sideline and hope the action comes my way.

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

Dude, I can't believe this is taken with a 70-200mm... Tremendous job!!
I see these kind of pictures primarily taken with either sigma 120-300mm f/2.8 or canon 300mm f/4 with that amount of background blur and subject isolation.
The position you're at, in the field is very nice chosen!

Thanks mate, I just shoot within my reach, so I normally stand behind or near the dead ball line and don't shoot much beyond the 22.

Nice shots, that last one the horizon could do with a bit of straightening.

Processing in the first one looks nice, could see it in a magazine.

The finals of local Club Rugby in Northland were held at Toll Stadium, I was lucky enough to be on the sideline.
