Not sure if this is the place to put this but I bought a GoPro Hero2 about a year ago. Had it attached to the hood of my car and was doung time elapse stuff with it when it fell off my car at about 30 miles per hour. I did not have a tether on it so it fell to the ground, the outter case broke open on impact flinging the camera out of it and slid about 20 feet on the lens on the pavement.

The lens was damaged pretty bad so I bought a replacement lens. I've since put the new lens into the camera and now it is not taking clear images as before. I've tried rotating the lens to focus it better to no avail.

Is there a relatively cheap place that I can send it to have it focused? GoPro wants to charge an enormous amount from the get go. I thought about using a local camera repair shop but thought I'd try here and see if there was a GoPro guru somewhere.

Hmm, I've never had one in my hands - so I don't know if I can add anything.

How much rotational adjustment do you have?

Can you put an 'index' mark on the lens?

I think I'd try recording, and verbally describe the adjustments being made, and then play back the recording to see if I could discern a positive result. Then you'd have some reference to use, either to continue, or return without guesswork.

I don't know, maybe you already tried that.

Good luck with it.

If I could find the battery I'd take a couple sample shots. It's somewhere under this pile on my desk...

That's why I thought of indexing the lens, and recording while making adjustments (and describing those adjustments).

Even if it's not right, you might be able to tell if you're at least heading in the right direction.

If you keep at it, you might even overshoot it, and having it indexed, with descriptions of the adjustment, you should be able to return to the optimum point.

I guess I should ask (since I don't know the product) does it offer any type of live view? I figured it didn't, but I don't know.

There is no screen on the camera itself but I believe I can plug it into a USB port and do live view like that. I'll have to find the manual and see if that's even possible.

Well there you go.

If you can pull off some sort of live view, that'll let you see if you can get the lens in focus.

I'll be sitting here with my popcorn...

FWIW, hooked my Hero2 to the TV using an HDMI cable and essentially get a " live view" when I turn the Hero2 on.

Well, I found the old scratched up lens that was in it before. :) I think I'm getting closer.

BTW, I've been leaving and coming back to this clean up job on my desk. It's not that bad. I've just had other things going today.

Thank goodness my office isn't in that shed. :) BTW, that shed is years and years of my in-laws collecting stuff. They are cleaning it out slowly but surely.

I just found the replacement waterproof case I had to purchase after the first one broke to pieces... I'll find that battery sooner or later... It'll probably need to be charged when I find it so HOPEFULLY it's on the charger...
