A lot of nice captures. Any suggestion regarding the lighting to avoid reflections, etc?

A pair of AQUANAUTS owned by two persons who were separated by 12k miles - who met me over dinner - and the shock was that they both had set their time precisely the same down to the second. Image captured with just camera and flash in a private room at restaurant.

Not sure if you are asking me the question but I will try to answer. Its impossible to eliminate all reflections due to the nature of jewelry. You have to make it work for you where you can. The key thing is that bright light tend to render very high contrast and you want to soften the light so that the reflections are not harsh and blow your image out.

Best basic advice - shoot in a darken room to avoid ambient light as much as possible. Second, use a light box where you can. And of course the very hated word - Practice. You can learn all the theory and it comes to naught if you do not put it to work and figure if it works for you.

I shoot watches very differently from other professionals I have been with. So you need to find your own method and style.

If you are interested, I published an article on introduction to watch photography. JUST CLICK HERE (external link) to download it.

Cheers

to Canonised.

Sorry, yes it was for you.

I am really impressed with the very high qua;ity of your pictures. I will try with my high price Timex.
Seriously, I always want to know how this was done, and I will try with a few of my antiques.
Thanks

@Andrews 1st post:
Ahh, your average modern sized watch. Well... that's what they generally looked like on my wrist when I went for one. Yes, I have small wrists :roll:

Now there's a gorgeous time piece. Love the Breitlings.

I want a Breitling... But I have wrists of a 12-year-old child. (A reason why I find it so difficult to shoot hand held with a macro.) Here are my first attempts at macro photography with a Sigma 150mm. I found it really difficult to focus with this lens (is this common with macro lenses?)... And even more difficult to frame and angle watches. Help? :D

Taking pictures of watches is a new one for me, cars is the usual subject!

I just got my watch back from a full service and what a difference it has made, the previous owner had it for 20 years and didn't touch it so a bit of TLC was long over due, I'm really pleased with the result!

I'm not exactly sure how old it is, if anyone does know I would love to know more about it. There are some initials stamped on the back with a date which is 1966 so I guess it was made around then!

C&C also welcome, looking at them now, maybe they are a bit 'cold'?
