Been happy with my current setup for nearly 2 years now.

7D with a 20D backup
24-105 walkaround, 12-24 wide angle, 100-400 and a 50/1.4.

I am now considering this -
5D or 5D2 with 24-105. 50/1.4 now becomes more usable in smaller spaces
7D with 100-400.
Maybe add a 16-35 for wide angle with the full frame in phase 2...

Time to start negotiations on which days I will skip dinner :)

Just so you know, I had the 12-24. It works on FF with no vignetting at 17mm-24mm. Works great actually.

I am quite happy with the Tokina 12-24. If it can handle the FF close to the 16mm range, I don't need to make one change.....

Then ask yourself why you need/want to upgrade. Is the 1.6x crop sensor the weak point in your photography? Will you be happy with 3.5 fps instead of 8? Are you going to be satisfied with only one cross type sensor?

I picked up a 5Dc and paired it with a 17-40 f/4L and it is perfect. I also have the 70-200 f/4L IS. Both lenses perform amazingly well on this body. I have a 60D which I will never surrender :)

For me, I am perfectly happy with my gear. I just wanted to expand, try FF and do it on the cheap. I'd read about and seen the quality of the images the 5Dc produces, and I can honestly say it lives up to it's claims. For what I shoot, the 5Dc was all I needed. I have never needed a higher frame rate. I've never actually used the 5.3 fps my 60D offers. If I shot sports or the like, my decision may have been different, but since I don't, I'm beyond satisfied.

Have you thought about the cheaper FF 6D that is in many ways the same camera?

Taylor, I have the 7D for the times I need the burst. Incidentally, I don't use burst very often is what I realized in the middle of my safari two weeks back :)

I don't think FF will specifically solve any weaknesses - but I don't normally switch the 24-105 with the wa - and I feel I miss a lot of good wa shots. Plus I realy want a bigger viewfinder and lcd....20D is great otherwise.

David, renting is tough here in Dubai. I am trying to find out....

Not looked at the 6D. I thought it was between the 5D2 and the 5D3. Not even sure if I will spend 1400-1500$ for the 5D2. 5Dc looks interesting but it may be close to getting a FF version of the 20D is my fear...

24-105L on the 6D is pretty darn wide! The 20D doesn't come close to the 5D or 6D in low light performance. Try shooting hand held with the 20D and the 24-105 at 10,000 ISO without any noise.

If you're not doing this professionally I'd say get what you want, as long as you can afford it, and don't worry about trying to rationalize it. I can't resist new toys and I figure you only live once so do it if it makes you happy. You can find 5D2's for really good prices if you're patient. Keep your 7D, augment your kit with the 5D2, and have fun with both.

Mike, so true. At some level, I know it's a want, not a need. But then, who knows the difference ;)

Now to patiently wait for a good 5d2 at a good price....

I wanted uwa and was looking at a canon 10-20, but I kept reading about FF goodness and the image quality. As I said earlier, for me, the 5Dc was the perfect entry level for me for FF.

You won't be waiting long for a good deal on a 5D2, I've seen many great prices lately.
