Abby - looks OK to me (and I am man)...I agree with the bar across the hat.
I would have thought that the light from the stained glass was competing with the subject given how bright the colours are (our eyes are attracted to bright and in focus elements). Perhaps the bright red gown compensates...I am not sure. I reduced the saturation (just a bit) of just the background just to see. This might be something you might want to consider but I realize it may be impractical to do this for all the images.

Stained glass is a cool thing by itself, but it's distracting from the subject. Much prefer the books.

The legs/shoes aren't necessary. Making the books a uniform brown would make them less distracting. Might be possible in post
