We are having another wet planting season, millions of dollars down the drain. Herbicides and fertilizer having been applied to much of this land but the weather we can't control. I was not able to get to this area for two days. Most of my farm drained off because the water ran off and beat the rising river but my next door neighbor isn't as fortunate.

By looking at the tan colored line on the levy one can tell the water has dropped 5 feet but still covers this 1000 acre field with 2 feet of water.

In this photo it shows the water rushing through a 2 foot diameter drain tube back into the river. The river has to drop before the gates will open and allow the water to flow back.

The little river that can help me so much by taking away excess water or harm me by bringing me too much. When the Chariton River is bank full or flooding the water from my drainage ditches can't get into it and floods me out. When I see water running backwards as it did last Friday, well lets just say it's not going to be good.
So look out down South, we are sending you some water as fast as we can get rid of it.

Sounds like the flooding will be wide-spread this year. Having visited many flood prone areas along the mighty rivers, I always wonder how you folks are able to tolerate such disasters periodically. I suppose the good years outweigh the bad, but still...

My sympathies for you and everyone affected by this.

Some powerful photos you have there. #1 would be my favorite, if you'd straighten it out

Steve, Hard to say nice pics when you are getting flooded out. Mother Nature still rules for sure. As mentioned, horizons could use some leveling. Hope spring gets better for your area.
