Was going back and forth trying to decide if I want the 85 focal length but decided its to long on a crop camera then it was between the canon 50 or sigma, so i went with the sigma. I hope its a sharp copy

85 is long? haha I thought 100 was too short on my crop so I picked up a 135, for 3/4 body shoots.

Yeah I like around 50 length tried the 60 macro but miss the wide aperture of a 1.4 and not a big fan off macro

Congrats, man! The Sigma 50 1.4 has the nicest bokeh of any 50mm EF lens. There's a reason it's nicknamed the "Sigmalux," an ode to the Leica 50mm Summilux ASPH, the latter being the only 50mm lens I've ever seen render creamier bokeh. I regard the Summilux with envious eyes, and slowly and surely draw my plans to own it. But first, a non-Leica full-frame mirrorless must appear. Until then, let the Sigmalux reign supreme.

At what aperture does the lens get its best sharpness at, is it pretty close to wide open?

I always had to use my canon 50 1.4 at aperture 2.8 and up.

The Sigma is usably sharp wide open!

The rules for "sharpness" are different for lenses faster than f/2. I wouldn't say the Canon 50 1.4 lacks sharpness wide open per se but more so reduced contrast, especially midframe. I'd say the Sigmalux is as sharp wide open as the Canon is at f/1.8, and has the contrast wide open of the Canon at f/2.2.
