I had my t3i for about 8 months, I want to get more lenses, what recommendations?
Type of pictures I take are landscape, wild life, people, and city life. So I want a all around lens that I could replace my 18-55mm kit lens and more range than my 50mm 1.4. Pretty much any lens that you guys tell me would help me expand my knowledge of lens to choose from and get.

Thank you for my help

15-85 and a flash should cover landscape and people. Get a 70-200 f4 is to complement the 15-85 nicely. If 200 is not long enough, look into the 70-300L or 100-400.

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

If it was me, I'd get the 17-55 2.8. It's widely known for its absolutely amazing image quality and some have said it has L glass in it. If you are happy with the kit lens focal range but not IQ like I was then you'll do well with it.

I have not heard one bad thing about it and while i've not used it myself, I certainly wouldn't hesitate on buying it when the time came.

I read an article on Flipboard this morning from a Pap who said he would never not have it in his bag.

It's a good lens, but in my experience 24mm is not wide enough on a crop camera like the t3i for cityscape/landscape. 105 is way too short for wildlife, unless you are talking zoo settings. if you really want a single lens, there are some options like a 15-85, 18-135, and 18-200 which give you more flexibility. However, the capabilities and image quality would be better if you get 2 or more lenses to complement your 18-55 such as a 10-22 and 70-300. Having a dslr means you have the ability to take a general purpose kit and expand its capabilities. Of course, the down side is that it means you might need to carry more and certainly spend more.

What a great lens. I use it for all kinds of shoots. I even had a chance to shoot with a 24-70 2.8L and went back to my 24-105.

What's your budget? Are you willing to buy used or refurbished?

I am considering the 24-105mm.

I recently bought a 24-105 and it's a terrific lens. The range is hugely useful; it makes a good one-lens solution for many types of photography, and the focusing is extremely fast. It can currently be found on the used market for around $700, and IMHO is a steal at that price. However, it's going to be a bit short for wildlife, and some might argue that you'll occasionally miss the wider end. If you do go this route, you're going to have to supplement the lens at some point with something wider, or longer, or both.

Another solution might be to keep your 18-55, which will do a fine job on landscapes, and supplement it with a longer zoom. Since you're considering the 24-105, I'm assuming that your budget is in the $700 to $800 range. At that price, on the used market, you're very close to being able to buy a 70-200 f4 IS, which is an outstanding lens and is usable for zoos, wildlife, etc., as well as for portraits and general photography.

Alternatively, as others have suggested, you could go for the 15-85, which is both wider and longer than your existing range, and will cover your needs except for wildlife. If you did this, and based on my assumption of your budget, you should also be able to afford a 55-250, which is a terrific lens for the price (under $200 on the used market) and will do a nice job on wildlife.

Good luck!

My budget is under 1000, at first I was considering getting the 7d body only, but I think I want to wait for the next generation 7d first before upgrade my body. I have the 55-250. Also a 50mm 1.4. So I just need a bit longer barrel. I was considering a 70-200 f/4 is but i don't know if its better than option then 24-105, since I been hearing really good remarks.

Not sure what you mean by this. The 70-200 is shorter than the 55-250, although the f/4 has a wider aperture through the long end of the range

7D for what you shoot wouldn't make much of a difference. Pick up a UWA (Canon 10-22 or Tokina 11-16, Tamron and Sigma have good offerings also) and be happy.

I like the approach of expanding the focal range to open up new shot potentials (UWA in this instance) before upgrading the quality of the existing range.

After UWA, I would suggest a flash, and my vote would go to the 430exii so you can use it with your 600Ds builtin controller. I've had bad personal luck with Yongxx.

After those two; I would consider upgrading your 18-55 (24-105 would be my choice then; complimented by your UWA), or consider going long if you find your missing it (no cheap quality way to do this; 100-400; or Bigma (x50-500 ranges))

are you ok with having 24mm as your widest focal length? set your 18-55mm to that and see what you think

personally I'd want to go wider than 18mm for landscapes...also it'll allow you to get shots you currently can not

right, but you have a 55-250 and you "just want a long barrel". I don't understand what you mean by a "long barrel". The 55-250 is longer than the 70-200, so I don't understand what you are looking for
