I have a rokinon 35 1.4. I have seen some people, from what I understand, get a chip that will allow AF confirmation. How do I get this in mine?

You can get ones on ebay that will include an plastic guidence adaptor to put it on perfectly. They are a bit more pricey, but you only need to buy it once.

I'm sorry for being dumb but what do I search on ebay. I tried 3 things and all I found was a select few lenses with chips, but no chip.

This is what you are looking for http://www.ebay.ca …Tubes&hash=item1c111db379 (external link)

Also STAY AWAY from Cyancryolate glues. That means the super strong, very fast setting stuff! Why? because Cyancryolate glues gives of fumes, that will settle on your lenses.

This and it's family ->

Use 2 component epoxy, and don't use too much! Get some good quality stuff like Loctite. Also ruff up the area you will glue with sandpaper. Both chip and lense. This will help the glue bond even harder ->

I have a AF confirm chip that came with a T2 adapter that works fine with my 5D Mk III. Any other AF chip will probably work too. EDIT...Only newer programmable AF chips will work with the 5D Mk III.

Here is the one I use with my Samyang 14mm. It is from ebay seller "tagotech" :

This one that came with the T2 mount also works:

QUOTED IMAGE

I had the Rokinon 85mm f/1.4 with a Dandelion AF confirm chip and I found it to be good for getting it "close" but it was almost never perfectly in focus when it "beeped". I'd just end up using the Live View @ 10x for fine tuning. Obviously the DoF at 85mm at sub-f/2.8 is rather thin so I guess maybe I was asking too much... perhaps at < 50mm it'd be better. I finally just gave up and now I use the Zacuto 2.5x rig and just eyeball it that way (I'm starting to use MF on my AF lenses more often now when I'm using a tripod and I have the Z-Finder attached... so far that's working great).

How accurate do you find the one you have shown in your post on longer FL's? (I'm thinking about getting a Trioplan 100mm f/2.8 M42 with adapter that's chipped)

I have used "Dandelion" and also cheaper AF chips and found that none of them are really accurate enough for precise focus with fast lenses. 10x Liveview is the only thing that works for me.

Oh poo now I'm really confused. Maybe it's not worth it.

I use the live view when I do video with this lens and I feel like I never nail the focus. but maybe I am expecting too much.... I just don't know. It always looks in focus on the camera but on my computer blown up I usually dont like it.

Also, if this works the way AF lenses have their AF confirm for manual focus, you shouldn't even bother, it's terrible!

If you want better manual focus for video, (or for stills) Magic lantern is the way to go. You won't believe how good it is until you try it.
