This is certainly a Thrush, but this time of year many different thrushes are migrating through the southern USA on their way to breeding grounds in the north. Hermit Thrush tends to have well-defined , bold spots on the breast. The breast spots on this bird are more smudgy. I wouldn't discount Veery for this guy, as the overall color appears more reddish than brown.

Very nice.

Thanks Mark and Peter for your comments. Mark, in my guide the images for the Hermit more closely resemble the bird I saw. Unfortunately guides don't always have the best of images so you raised an interesting point.

I thought about Veery & Hermit Thrush but the eye ring tipped the scales to the Hermit Thrush. Either way I'm glad they've arrived in Ontario Don.
