Had the opportunity to crawl through the Memphis Belle (reproduction movie version) B-17G restored to resemble a B-17F at Burbank airport. The captain, John Shuttleworth allowed me to take all the photos I wanted and answered many questions about the airplane. If you ever get the opportunity to see this airplane it's a great deal and the crews are extremely friendly. Showing it's wear and tear, it flies all over the country and gives weekend flights at many airports.

This was a sunset departure from Burbank as they were flying to Bakersfield for shows the next day.

Check out their schedule at: http://www.libertyfoundation.org/index.html (external link)

Nice shots, haven't seen that B-17 since 1989 when it came over for the filming. Still looks great.

Thanks for the kind comments everyone.

Dave, believe it or not those are non-flash, non-HDR interior photos with my 50D. All done on LR4 with minimum sliders. I was surprised how nice #3 came out, and quite happy with the results.

I'm going to see her this weekend, she's in Sacramento, I guess this B-17 replaced Liberty Belle after it crash landed and burned.

She will be in Hillsboro, Oregon this weekend. The Liberty Belle made a few tours through here prior to her untimely demise near Chicago. She made an emergency landing in a corn field due to an engine fire that ultimately destroyed this beautiful bird. There are only a few left flying so get out and enjoy them.

Nose Art:
Esquire magazine's April 1941 centerfold, created by George Petty, provided the inspiration for the pinup that was painted on the nose of the Memphis Belle. The pinup was painted by Tony Starcer and was clad in blue on the port side of the plane and red on the starboard side. In addition, a bomb was painted to represent each of the plane's 25 missions and a swastika for each of the eight German planes shot down by the crew.
