Non detachable lens cameras with longer than 6 inch lens are also in the Banned list.
Now I wonder what kind of measuring device security has to accurately measure that lens, without making the line to get clogged.

If they don't have a ruler, a dollar bill will work. U.S. currency is 6" long.

So don't buy the tickets and don't make pictures of the event. Nobody's forcing you to go to the derby.

They'd control the access to the pictures either way.

When pressure cookers are outlawed only outlaws will have pressure cookers.

Sad but true, IE all these proposed gun bans/blaming guns, the politicians are preying on the high emotions following sandy hook etc. "save the children" LOL. It happens all the time, and it works... Once we lose these rights its infinitely harder to gain them back!

Quick, they better think of more things to ban after the Boston bombing!

Exactly. Why not ban pressure cookers? And now that they have discovered that the gunpowder used in the bombs came from commercially available fireworks how long will it be until all fireworks sales are banned completely? (considering some of the idiots that blow stuff off all year long there might be something positive in that).
Where do we go from there? Let's ban backpacks too, and search every person carrying any kind of a duffel bag, or just outlaw them as well.

I'm just furious, photographers are not the security risks here. Why the outright lying and prejudice against anyone who brings something better than a crappy point & shoot or cell phone camera? I can understand not wanting people to be dragging 400-500-600mm lenses into the stands obstructing other people but just making a blanket ban on any camera that you can change a lens on because it's a freaking security risk? Sorry, but my B.S. alarm is almost deafening here..........

And when they ban you from your next bike race?

.....or auto race, or baseball or basketball or football game?......or any public event like a parade, all because you are a freakin' security risk with your dangerous DSLR and it's highly volatile interchangable lenses?

It's not the sport that's the issue, it's the fact that this is complete and total B.S. and an unwarranted attack on hobbyist or amateur photographers who pose absolutely no threat or security risk.

at most events where they do this kind of thing, there's a bag check that everyone goes through and they have tables with rulers to measure any lens that is questionable.

There may be a use for those D.O. lenses after all...

It's not the new world order. Has nothing to do with politics.

It's the dumbing down of America.

You see it every where you go, and with everything you do.

You go to a store, make a 93 cent purchase and give the cashier a dollar who draws a blank expression on their face because they cannot calculate the change.

There are many, even entire generations, that are no longer capable of critical thinking. Their brains are void of logic. Decisions like this illustrate it.

But hey, they can put a condom on a cucumber just fine because that's what their public schools spent time teaching them!

The same ban on cameras with certain length lenses was made at The Circuit Of The Americas for the F1 race that happened there last year. There was a large reaction from fans and the ban was overturned within a few days, so fans who also had an interest in photography could enjoy both their hobbies.

As far as I am aware there were no security incidents involving anyone with a camera and a particularly long lens.

Hopefully sense is seen from both sides.

The host that owns the venue can certainly make the rules and I get a feeling this is only going to keep happening more and more. I remember in the early 1980s when most concert venues banned cameras. I think this could have a lot to do with business and less to do with security. I'll bet those professional photographers that shoot the race or the organizations they work for are partially behind this. Like it or not, right or wrong, I believe its going to keep becoming more and more prevalent. And its their venue so its their rules.

No lenses over 6"! Okay. Is that 6" physically or optically?

If optically, that would mean no lenses over 152.4mm! And would that be the actual (usually unadvertised) lens size, or its 35mm equivalent? Check your PnS lenses, people!

If physically, would that be at minimum extension? Or maximum extension? There can be a significant difference, as any woman knows.

And measured from where? The front of the camera? If so, look for thicker, bulkier bodies to be produced. Of course there are already an awful lot of thick, bulky bodies already out there. I have one of them.

From the back of the camera? Then thinner, trimmer bodies will be developed. Advertising is already pushing us for thinner, trimmer bodies, often to the point of being unhealthy. Do we really want anorexic cameras?

From the film plane? Does a filmless cameras even have a film plane? And would the average Churchill Downs gate guard recognize a film plane if it were pointed out to him? They can barely recognize a camera!

Nope, none of the above will work. Ergo, in keeping with the wishes of those who are purported to know best, they should simply make unlicensed photography a felony and be done with it. Then those pesky iPhones will be available only as under-the-counter black-market items, and mere possession of one will net you 5-10!
