Wat Arun Ratchawararam Ratchawaramahawihan, usually simply referred to as Wat Arun, is a Buddhist temple in Bangkok and one of the city's most recognisable landmarks. Although the temple has existed since the 17th century, the prang (spires) were built in the early 19th century during the reign of King Rama II and are decorated with seashells, as well as pieces of Chinese porcelain used as ballast by trading vessels. The central prang rises to a height of 76m.

Taken from across the river with the EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM at 70mm.

Great composition and colour - you were blessed with such a gorgeous sky!

It actually took me four attempts to get this! The first day, the sunset was perfect, but, just at that moment, the king's barge came past with a flotilla of other boats, blocking parts of the temple and causing streaks of light to appear in the photo, due to the moving headlights and other light sources. The second day, it was cloudy and raining, and there was no sunset. The third day, there was a sunset, but it wasn't the most brilliant, and there were high winds, causing the river to be choppy and non-reflective. Then I had to fly off to India.

On my way back, I passed through Bangkok again for an evening, and managed to get this shot.

Lovely shot! Are the prangs lit? I am wondering how you got them to glow so wonderfully when the sunset is in the background.

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

Multiple blended exposures (more so for detail in the darker areas) plus the temple is actually very brightly lit, anyway..

Yeah this a magnificent place and photo. You captured it at the right time too. The color of the sky matches the lighting. Good one.

A beautiful photo that can not be duplicated now as the Temple is covered in scaffolding for refurbishment.
