And if you want to see what kind of access I have, check my instagram feed. http://instagram.com/thomasgcampbell (external link)

I could be lying.

I read a story somewhere about Churchill Downs converting the press box to "luxury seating" and general disregard to media / photography in general. You get that feeling being there? How's the vibe?

They did convert it to luxury seating and the room is great.

They also built a giant new pressbox with a ton of plasma TVs and even betting machines.

And for all the hoopla, there are still people with cameras. They either aren't checking much or they didn't care for Thursday. Maybe it will be different on Oaks day or Derby Day.

I have not had a single problem with anything or going anywhere. Not anti-photography at all.

How about this.. the Kentucky Derby isn't a multiple hour sports match. The actual race lasts a couple of minutes.

Yes and no.

The Derby is, I believe, the 11th race of the day. I went a few years back, right as the gates open first thing in the morning, to secure a spot at the finish line and it was a loooonnnnggg day of sitting through other races and trying to keep drunk jerks from pushing me around. Granted, you don't have to go first thing in the morning, but my group certainly wasn't the only one with that idea. I wasn't in the habit of bringing my camera everywhere at that point, but I'd be mighty annoyed to be told, for no real purpose, that I cannot have an interchangeable lens + camera kit. That's a bunch of baloney.
